Every year, Shandur (3,734 meters) invites visitors to experience a traditional polo tournament between the teams of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan. The festival also includes folk music, folk dance, traditional sports, paragliding, boating and trout fishing completion and a camping village is set up on the Pass. th Polo is an equestrian sport with its origin embedded in Central Asia dating back to 6 century BC. At first it was a training game for cavalry unites for the king’s guards or other elite troops. To the warlike tribesmen who played polo with as many as 100 players to a side. It was a th miniature battle. It became a Persian national game in the 6 century AD. From Persia, the game spread to Arabia, then to Tibet, China and Japan. Various teams of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral have always been playing the game of polo closest to its original form. Free styled mountain polo is arguably polo in its purest form. This version of the game played at Shandur-Top has attained legendary status and is of great interest to international and domestic adventure tourists alike. This plateau is the habitat of greatly threatened Himalayan brown bear, at the elevation ranging between 3500 to 4500 m above sea level. Deosai is now a National Park and a protected area for the Himalayan brown bear. In addition variety of wildlife, birds, vegetation and especially wild flowers are major attraction of Deosai Plains. We have planned a 7-days Jeep safari with camping and trekking programme in collaboration with Himalayan Wildlife Foundation to explore the vast wilderness of Deosai, which is still an unknown ecotourism destination for most Pakistanis and foreigners. The lake lies in the extreme north of the Kaghan Valley, in the Mansehra District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. The word "dudi" means white, "pat" means mountains and "sar" mean lake. This name has been given to the lake because of the white color of snow at surrounding peaks. In the summer, the water of the lake reflects like a mirror. Zaidi2 Abstract Energy crisis has emerged as a serious issue all over the world in recent years. Pakistan is facing a similar crisis that has resulted in frequent power failures and load shedding throughout the country for past several years. The utilization of renewable energy resources may help reducing fossil fuel dependency of the country for power generation. There are various renewable energy options for Pakistan including solar, wind and hydropower. The objective of this study is to develop an approach that can be used to assess the run-of-river hydropower potential of Kunhar River using geospatial data and techniques. Kunhar River is a tributary of Jhelum River located in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Satellite data used in this study include ASTER Digital Elevation Model (DEM). Flow data are acquired from regional hydrologic gauges. Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) tools are used for processing the satellite images, delineation of watershed and stream network, and identification of potential sites for hydropower projects. This study will aid decision-makers in the energy sector to optimize the available resources in selecting the suitable sites for small hydropower plants with high power potential. The proposed approach can further be utilized to assess an overall hydropower potential of the country. Check List of Medicinal Plants of Siran Valley Mansehra-Pakistan Ghulam Mujtaba Shah And Mir Ajab Khan* Department of Botany, Govt Post Graduate College, Abbottabad *Department Of Plants Sciences, Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad-Pakistan Issued 27 February 2006 ABSTRACT This study was carried in Siran Valley district Mansehra. (Pakistan). The method adopted for documentation of indigenous knowledge was based on questionnaire consisting of semi-structured interviews employing a checklist of questions and direct observations. The aim of the study was to collect indigenous knowledge of local inhabitants about the use of native plants, which were being utilized by the people for the treatment of different diseases. The ethnomedicinal uses of 80 plant species belonging to 49 families were recorded during field trips from the research area. The cultivated medicinal plants consists of 21 species. The check list and ethnomedicinal inventory was developed alphabetically by botanical name, followed by local name, family, part used and ethnomedicinal uses. Plant specimens were collected, identified, preserved, mounted and voucher was deposited in the Department of Plant Sciences, Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad for future references. Key words: Medicinal plants, ethnomedicinal uses, Siran Valley-Pakistan. INTRODUCTION The study area is located in the Hazara Civil Division of the North West Frontier Province, (NWFP), Pakistan. Mansehra district was formed on 1st of October 1976. It consists of three tehsils viz. Balakot, Mansehra and Oghi. Mansehra district is located between 340-15/ to 350-12/ North latitudes and 720–50/ to 740-07/ East longitudes. Total area of the district is 5957 Sq km.
