Cet inventaire à la Prévert ne contient qu’une infime partie des multiples objets qui peuplent l’écologie post-digitale de Michael Jones McKean. Qu’elles prennent la forme de collages (Tau Ceti e, 2015), d’installation à l’échelle de la galerie (The Religion, 2013) ou à celle du bâtiment (The Ground, 2017), les sculptures – puisque c’est le terme que revendique l’auteur – constituent autant de tentatives d’ordonnancement entre le vivant et l’inerte, l’humain et le non-humain, au sein desquelles chaque entité se voit assigner une valeur ontologique équiva- lente. Les œuvres du jeune artiste américain rendent compte d’un réel dont la conscience humaine ne serait plus le seul déterminant, mais qui, dans la lignée des théories de l’assemblage et de l’acteur-réseau, serait un état purement émergent, constamment redéfini par la corrélation des multiples agents qui le peuplent. Transition from Eyeball to Snowball Driven by Sea-ice Drift on Tidally Locked Terrestrial Planets Jun Yang1,*, Weiwen Ji1, & Yaoxuan Zeng1 1Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, School of Physics, Peking University, Beijing, 100871, China. *Corresponding author: J.Y., [email protected] Tidally locked terrestrial planets around low-mass stars are the prime targets for future atmospheric characterizations of potentially habitable systems1, especially the three nearby ones–Proxima b2, TRAPPIST-1e3, and LHS 1140b4. Previous studies suggest that if these planets have surface ocean they would be in an eyeball-like climate state5-10: ice-free in the vicinity of the substellar point and ice-covered in the rest regions. However, an important component of the climate system–sea ice dynamics has not been well studied in previous studies. A fundamental question is: would the open ocean be stable against a globally ice-covered snowball state? Here we show that sea-ice drift cools the ocean’s surface when the ice flows to the warmer substellar region and melts through absorbing heat from the ocean and the overlying air. As a result, the open ocean shrinks and can even disappear when atmospheric greenhouse gases are not much more abundant than on Earth, turning the planet into a snowball state. This occurs for both synchronous rotation and spin- orbit resonances (such as 3:2). These results suggest that sea-ice drift strongly reduces the open ocean area and can significantly impact the habitability of tidally locked planets. 1 Sea-ice drift, driven by surface winds and ocean currents, transports heat and freshwater across the ocean surface, directly or indirectly influencing ice concentration, ice growth and melt, ice thickness, surface albedo, and air–sea heat exchange11,12. -

How to Characterize Habitable Worlds and Signs of Life

First results suggest that it is teeming with a fascinating diversity of rocky planets, including those in the habitable zone. Even our closest star, Proxima Centauri, harbors a small planet in its habitable zone, Proxima b. With the next generation of telescopes, we will be able to peer into the atmospheres of rocky planets and get a glimpse into other worlds. Using our own planet and its wide range of biota as a Rosetta stone, we explore how we could detect habitability and signs of life on exoplanets over interstellar distances. Current telescopes are not yet powerful enough to characterize habitable exoplanets, but the next generation of telescopes that is already being built will have the capabilities to characterize close-by habitable worlds. The discussion on what makes a planet a habitat and how to detect signs of life is lively. This review will show the latest results, the challenges of how to identify and characterize such habitable worlds, and how near- future telescopes will revolutionize the field. For the first time in human history, we have developed the technology to detect potential habitable worlds. -

POTRAGA ZA ŽIVOTOM U KOSMOSU seminarski rad iz astrofizike Teodora Žižak 1 Uvod Slika 1: Zemlja snimljena sa Međunarodne svemirske stanice, [31] Procenjuje se da na Zemlji živi oko 14 miliona različitih vrsta; od toga, oko 1.2 miliona je poznato, istraženo i dokumentovano. Smatra se da ukupan broj vrsta koje su ikada živele na Zemlji premašuje pet milijardi, od čega je 99% izumrlo (prema [10]). Pet milijardi različitih živih vrsta je nastalo, evoluiralo i nestalo na planeti Zemlji. Kako to da još uvek nismo našli nijedan živi organizam nigde drugde? Da li je život zaista tolika retkost u kosmosu? Koja je verovatnoća da smo jedini primerci živih bića u čitavom univerzumu? S druge strane, koja je verovatnoća da ćemo u nepojmljivom prostranstvu kosmosa naići na makar jednu živu ćeliju — ili kolonije bakterija — ili čopore vukova — ili civilizacije? Da bismo odgovorili na ova pitanja, potrebno je da proučimo život na Zemlji, a potom da podignemo pogled ka nebu i — tražimo. 2 2 Život kakav poznajemo Proučavanje i upoređivanje milion i po živih vrsta tokom 300 godina dalo je zaključak da su sve one, ma koliko se međusobno razlikovale, sačinjene od 6 hemijskih elemenata: ugljenika (C), kiseonika (O), azota (N), vodonika (H), fosfora (P) i sumpora (S). Ugljenik se lako vezuje sa drugim elementima, kao i sa samim sobom, i može da gradi dugačke lance i složene, stabilne strukture. Kiseonik, azot i vodonik su sastavni delovi aminokiselina i masti (neophodnih za funkcionisanje živih organizama), kao i DNK-a i RNK-a — nosilaca genetskog materijala svakog živog bića, neophodnih za razmnožavanje i, samim tim, opstanak života. -

L’audiovisuel, le cinéma, la musique et les créations sonores constituent des champs de recherche aussi diversifiés que dynamiques qui, en donnant à voir et à entendre notre société, nous aident à la penser. Les médias et les œuvres audiovisuelles contribuent également de manière majeure à fonder notre culture et notre identité. Dans une époque saturée d’images, le ministère de la Culture a souhaité réaffirmer en 2020 la priorité qu’il accorde à l’éducation à l’image et aux médias pour permettre à chacun d’appréhender le monde et sa complexité en développant son esprit critique. Ce numéro présente les travaux les plus récents menés par les établissements publics du ministère de la Culture, les associations et les laboratoires de recherche qu’il soutient, qu’ils soient dédiés à la création, à la formation, ou à l’archivage et à la préservation des images animées et du son. Ces champs de recherche foisonnants, bien souvent interdisciplinaires, ouvrent des perspectives inédites tant pour l’étude de vastes corpus grâce aux outils numériques, que pour la recherche-création, ou la préservation des œuvres et des archives audio - visuelles et sonores.
