Eleanor Davis
Gilbert Hernandez, born in 1957, is an award-winning cartoonist of the
independent comic series, Love and Rockets (along with his brother, Jaime
Hernandez) which has been published by Fantagraphics for the last 32 years. From 1983 to 1996, Gilbert produced the now legendary Palomar saga, collected in
the graphic novels Heartbreak Soup and Human Diastrophism, and considered to be
one of the de ning bodies of literature of its era. His latest collection is Luba and
Her Family and the stand alone, Julio’s Day.
Gilbert lives in Las Vegas, NV, with his wife Carol and daughter Natalia.

Jaime Hernandez is an award-winning cartoonist of the independent comic series,

Keiler Roberts teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and DePaul
University. Her autobiographical comic, Powdered Milk has received three Ignatz
nominations and was included in The Best American Comics 2014 Notables List. Her
work has been published in The Chicago Reader, Mutha Magazine and Newcity. She
was special guest at Chicago Zine Fest 2013, a panelist at CAKE 2011, and

Zak Sally is a writer, musician, educator, and the cartoonist responsible for the
Sammy The Mouse series (published by Fantagraphics, La Mano, and Uncivilized
Books), as well as the Eisner nominated Recidivist (of which the 4th volume was just
released). He is also the owner and founder of La Mano, a DIY micro press that hand prints and assembles its own stu , featuring artists such as John Porcellino,
Kim Deitch and numerous others. In 2014, he co-founded SCHOOLHAUS, an
experimental art education program in Minneapolis.

Zak Sally
Dash Shaw is a cartoonist and animator whose graphic novel, New School, was
named one of the best books of 2013 by NPR. His other recent books include
BodyWorld and Bottomless Belly Button. His animated works include the Sigur Ros
video “Seraph”, “Wheel of Fortune”, and the ifc series “The Unclothed Man in the
35th Century AD.” His new graphic novel Doctors, about doctors who enter
deceased people’s afterlives to bring them back from the dead, came out last year

Jillian Tamaki is a Canadian illustrator and cartoonist. Her illustrations have won
gold medals from the Society of Illustrators and the Society of Publication
Designers.
With her cousin Mariko Tamaki, Jillian is the co-creator of the graphic novels SKIM,
which was one of the New York Times‘ Best Illustrated Books of 2008; and THIS ONE
SUMMER, which won the 2014 Governor-General’s Award. Jillian’s three books of Jillian Tamaki personal work are GILDED LILIES (2006), INDOOR VOICE (2010), and SUPERMUTANT
MAGIC ACADEMY, which will debut at CAKE. The hilarious SUPERMUTANT MAGIC
ACADEMY draws from Jillian’s Ignatz Award-winning webcomic and concludes the
story of life at the academy.

Whitney Allen is an artist and musician based out of Chicago since 2007. Her work

Sarah Becan is a comics artist, author, illustrator and designer based in Chicago, Sarah Becan and the creator of “I Think You’re Sauceome”, a food-centric autobiographical
Sarah Becan webcomic. She was awarded a Xeric Award and a Stumptown Trophy for
Outstanding Debut for her rst graphic novel, The Complete Ouija Interviews, and
her work has twice been nominated for the Ignatz Award.
Becan’s second graphic novel, Shuteye, was funded with a successful Kickstarter
campaign and released in early 2012. Sarah is a core contributor to Cartozia Tales,
and most recently, she nished producing Luna de Cuernos, a long form graphic
story for Fifth House Ensemble’s 2014 concert series.
