ORIOLES ANNOUNCE MAGAZINE CONTEST WINNER: The Baltimore Orioles, Orioles Kids Magazine, and Visit Sarasota County (VSC) teamed up once again this year to offer one child a chance to see the Orioles play a Spring Training game in Sarasota, Fla. The contest, which ran in Orioles Kids Magazine, asked children to submit a one-page statement on why they should be selected to win the trip to Sarasota. This year’s winner hails from Towson, Md. and is nine-year old CECELIA LAYFIELD. In the letter Layfield submitted for the contest, she explained her love for playing baseball, her excitement for the upcoming Orioles season, and her interest in visiting Sarasota for the first time. Layfield and her father will receive tickets to the game on Saturday, March 26, round-trip airfare for two, and three nights’ accommodations at the Sandcastle Hotel on Lido Beach. The contest generated more than 30 entries and further promotes the strong partnership between VSC and the Orioles. Recently, a VSC analysis found that the Mid-Atlantic region ranks at the top of the charts for Sarasota’s origin-of-visitor cities. In the spring of 2015, nearly 26,000 visitors from the Mid-Atlantic region came to Sarasota County, representing an increase of 128 percent over the same period in 2014, according to the VSC report.
