Inside the building: All plenaries and parallel sessions will take place within the building, on the ground and fourth floors. Lifts and staircases connect all floors of the building. A small café serving light refreshments is located on the ground floor in the lobby area. Wifi is available throughout the building (see below for further information). A map of the building can be found in your conference bags. If you need assistance finding a particular room, please ask one of our volunteers in an orange t-shirt.

Wireless internet access Free wireless access is available via The Cloud. 1. Connect to _The Cloud wireless network. 2. Open your internet browser, where you’ll be taken to The Cloud’s registration page. Click ‘Get online or register now’. 3. Click ‘Free cloud wifi’ 4. Click ‘Create Account’, and complete the registration form. If you do not have a UK address: In ‘House name or number’, enter Northumbria University, and in Post Code, enter NE1 8ST.

Each time you connect to the internet via The Cloud, you will need to sign in on The Cloud website.

Alternatively, if you have Eduroam set up on your computer/tablet/smartphone, you can access the Eduroam network on campus. Please speak to your institution’s IT support team to find out how to set up Eduroam.

Money ATMs: ATMs (cash machines) are available on campus and around the city centre. The closest ATM to the conference venue is at Sainsbury’s on Falconar Street, just outside of the conference venue. On campus, ATMs are located outside the Ellison Building on Road and outside the Students’ Union Building.

Bureaux de change: Two bureaux de change are listed on the google map, but more are available in the city centre.

Pharmacies There are several pharmacies (chemists) in Newcastle; the closest to the venue is Boots, opposite .

Public transportation Buses Buses are frequent and reliable. Pay for bus tickets on board with cash. Drivers carry limited change, and tend not to accept £20 notes. For bus information: http://www.nexus.org.uk/bus.

Metro The light rail system has multiple stops within the city centre, and connects the city to Newcastle Airport, the coast, and other parts of the wider Tyner & Wear area. Single, day or multi-day tickets are purchased in stations, using cash or card. For timetables, fare information and a map of the Metro system: http://www.nexus.org.uk/metro. For convenience, a map of the Metro system is enclosed in your conference bag.

Manors is the nearest Metro station to the campus venue.

If you plan to use the Metro and Bus services in one day, consider purchasing a Day Rover, which covers a day’s unlimited travel within Tyne & Wear, for £7. For information: http://www.networkonetickets.co.uk/tickets

Trains Use trains to access towns and cities further afield. Purchase tickets in advance online or at the station. Tickets can be bought at the station with cash or cards. Unless travelling locally, advance tickets tend to be significantly cheaper. Purchase tickets here: https://www.virgintrainseastcoast.com/. Taxis Pre-booked taxis are relatively inexpensive. Black cabs, which wait at taxi ranks around the city are costlier but can be more convenient. Phone numbers for local taxi companies are below:
