Huck Returns to Cruiserweight, Defends WBO Title Against Afolabi Huck returns to cruiserweight, defends WBO Title against Afolabi Marco Huck (34-2, 25 KOs) will return to the cruiserweight division following last month´s exciting clash with WBA Heavyweight Champion Alexander Povetkin. After long talks with Hall of Fame Promoter Wilfried Sauerland, coach Ulli Wegner, Team Sauerland General Manager Chris Meyer and sports director Hagen Doering, Huck made the decision to continue at cruiserweight, where he holds the WBO title. His next opponent will be mandatory challenger and interim champion Ola Afolabi (19-2-3, 9 KOs). Next up for Povetkin is the mandatory defence against Hasim Rahman. The earliest date for a potential rematch between Huck and Povetkin would be fall 2012. “We believe that defending his WBO Cruiserweight Title is the best thing for Marco to do,” Wilfried Sauerland said. “At the age of 27 he is still very young for a boxer. He can always move up to heavyweight later.” Huck accepted Sauerland´s advice. “I would have loved to remain at heavyweight but my team convinced me to stay at cruiserweight for the time being,” he said. “That´s fine for me. I am happy to continue my domination and keep destroying opponents. I will start with Afolabi. He is a dangerous fighter but he has no chance against me.” First talks regarding the date and the venue have already been held between Team Sauerland and Tom Loeffler, Afolabi´s representative. It will be second time they meet in the ring. After winning the WBO Cruiserweight Title in August 2009, Huck made a spectacular first defence against Afolabi in December 2009. The 31-year-old has won five straight since, while Huck clinched seven more victories until his dramatic battle against Povetkin. —.

  • Self-Made Millionaire Mario Daser Takes on Ola Afolabi
„The Big Deal“ – Self-made millionaire Mario Daser takes on Ola Afolabi On paper, it looks like a terrible mismatch: This Friday, unbeaten but untested cruiserweight contender Mario Daser (12-0) takes on former IBO world champion and multiple time world title challenger Ola Afolabi for the IBO International International and WBO European Championship. The 37-year-old Brit who lives in Hollywood, California, has a record of 22 wins with only five defeats and four draws. Afolabi has been in the ring with some of the best fighters of his generation including Marco Huck (four times), Rakhim Chakhkiev, Victor Emilio Ramirez, Valery Brudov and Enzo Maccarinelli while Daser’s best opponent so far was Bosnian journeyman Drazan Janjanin. „I was already retired but this offer was just too good to be rejected“, says Afolabi. „When I saw the figures on the contract I knew I had to come back. They are paying me a lot of money to beat up a guy who just isn’t my league. I couldn’t study any of his fights because they are not on YouTube. But I saw training videos on his Instagram account. No offense, but man, his shadowboxing looks like shit!“ Daser knows that he is the underdog due to his lack of experience but he feels comfortable with this role. „All my life people told me that I couldn’t do this and couldn’t do that. However, I always did it – and in the end I succeeded.“ Who is this guy who thinks that he can handle Afolabi? 28-year-old Daser was born in Munich, Germany, and is a self- made millionaire.

  • Schluss Mit Schlumpf
