COURSE INFORMATION SHEET

AIM OF THE COURSE 1. Develop participant’s knowledge, skill and attitude to deliver quality stroke care. 2. Equip participants for taking advanced extended roles and responsibilities in stroke care Nursing.

PROGRAM INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to: 1. Identify the local and global trend in stroke management and advanced care. 2. Integrate the knowledge of pathophysiology, clinical manifestations and treatment modalities of stroke to provide appropriate stroke care. 3. Outline the care of hyper-acute stroke patients, including pre & post IV-thrombolytic care and endovascular intervention. 4. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in neurological nursing assessment, and identify the risk and benefit of different diagnostic studies for stroke patients. 5. Provide holistic and organized stroke care at different phase of stroke patent journey based on protocol, standards and pathways. 6. Able to provide effective post-stroke nursing management to minimize complications and promote recovery. 7. Co-ordinate multi-disciplinary input and prioritize care to manage complex conditions based on clients’ needs and progress. 8. Provide psychological care and counseling for stroke patients and family member to facilitate disease coping. 9. Conduct health education to patients and/or their families to enforce healthy life styles and self-management for secondary stroke prevention. 10. Formulate rehabilitation, transitional support and discharge care plan for stroke patients. 11. Demonstrate ability to participate in evidence-based practice or conduct clinical projects in stroke care nursing.

DESIGN OF THE COURSE A. Theoretical Input (a total of 13.5 days, one study day per week)

 Module I: Fundamental Module 3.5 day theoretical sessions plus a quiz

Participants should watch a 1 hour video on “Course Introduction” before the 1st study day on 13/11/2020.

B. Clinical Practicum: 6 Weeks CP I : 4 weeks in acute care setting/ hyper-acute care setting CP II : 2 weeks in rehabilitation unit Clinical Practicum will be arranged in groups Group A CP I (22 Feb - 21 March 2021) CP II (22 March - 4 Apr 2021) Group B CP I (5 April - 2 May 2021) CP II (03 May - 16 May 2021)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS  Registered Nurses with valid practising certificates offered by the Nursing Council of Hong Kong  Have not less than 24 months post-registration nursing experience.  Priority will be given to those currently working in the stroke units or its related department in HA hospital  Direct entry to Module II will be considered for those who have successfully completed the Fundamental Module of PRCC in Stroke Care Nursing in past 3 years i.e. 9/7, 23/7, 6/8 & 20/8/2018.

ASSESSMENTS A. Written Assessment: - Module I: QUIZ (5%) - Module II: i. Written Examination (55%) ii. Group Project (20%) iii. Patient Care Study (20%)

B. Clinical Assessment: - Continuing Clinical Assessment (CCA) during Clinical Practicum (100%)
