Included in that number are several past Ryder Cup players, Major Champions and numerous winners on The European Tour. From a starting point of only one significant over 50s event - the PGA Seniors Championship - the European Senior Tour now comprises a schedule of 16 tournaments throughout Europe and beyond, as the boundaries of the game continue to be reshaped. The introduction, in 1987, of the Senior Open Championship and a Neil Coles victory over five former Open champions, led two years later to more than 60 professionals calling for a European Senior Tour to be formally structured. In 2003, the Senior Open Championship was officially recognized as a “Senior Major,” incorporated into the European Senior Tour and US Champions Tour schedules. Swift progress through the 1990s produced one of the most impressive success stories in the 20th century’s final decade of sport. Under the administration of Managing Director Andy Stubbs, tournaments are now staged in 12 countries and on three different continents, employing a Qualifying School to identify. The Senior Tour Committee comprises David J Russell (Chairman), Steve Cipa, Marc Farry, Anders Forsbrand, Mark James, Tony Johnstone, Barry Lane, Bill Longmuir, Mark Mouland and Andrew Oldcorn. 2 THE LATVIAN SENIORS OPEN 2014 THE HIDDEN SECRET OF LATVIA AND ITS CAPITAL CITY RIGA Latvia is a thriving democratic nation strategically located geographically and geopolitically in northern Europe linking the West and East. It is also the “greenest” country of the EU. Latvia is a member of both the European Union (EU) and NATO. In 2015, Riga will become the seat of the Presidency of the European Union. Latvia’s capital city – Riga – is a key economic and financial center. Riga is a modern cosmopolitan city with world-class hotels, gourmet dining and culture. In 2012, Riga’s spectacular Art Nouveau architecture, widely recognized as the world’s finest, resulted in its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage site. In 2014, Riga will become the European Capital of Culture. A special series of cultural events – Force Majeure – will be unveiled in January 2014. Riga’s reputation as a city of creativity and energy is enduring, and it is experiencing an artistic and cultural revival of particular intensity. Riga is a stunning destination for both business and pleasure. Board meetings, conferences, kick-off events and gala dinners can be organized in various historical settings ranging from opulent Baroque ballrooms in the city to medieval castles in the countryside. Just outside Riga, one can find the most pristine white beaches of the Baltics as well as the award-winning golf course – Ozo Golf Club. Riga is easily reached via direct flights to its modern international airport from over 100 destinations in 30 countries, including every major European city and the US. 3 THE LATVIAN SENIORS OPEN 2014 OZO GOLF CLUB Ozo Golf Club is the first 18-hole golf course in Latvia. The course, measuring 6400 meters from the back tees, surprises everyone with its variety. Denver (Colorado, USA) based designer Rob Swedberg has managed to capture the accents of his native Rocky Mountains, adapting the banks of the nearby Lake Kisezers, as well as forming 16 ponds and 50 sand bunkers in the course. The course is located in Riga, the capital of Latvia, only eight kilometers or a ten- minute drive from the downtown area. The club owner is Sandis Ozolinsh, the well-known Latvian ice hockey player. The Club’s name - Ozo - comes from Sandis’ nickname in the NHL. The facilities include a driving range, conveniently situated in front of the clubhouse, as well as chipping and putting greens. The Club restaurant, Bloom, is well known among both golfers and cuisine lovers from the surrounding area. In 2002, Ozo Golf Club received the award for the Best Natural Architecture Project in Latvia. In 2004, New York TImes author Robert Sidorsky included Ozo Golf Club in his book Golf Courses of the World: 365 Days as one of the world’s most sensational courses to play. In 2005, Ozo Golf Club received received Latvian National Sport facility status, becoming the main education and training center for the Latvian National teams. Competitions of different levels take place at Ozo Golf Club. 4 THE LATVIAN SENIORS OPEN 2014 SPONSORSHIP PACKAGES TOURNAMENT FACTS DATE August 4th - August 10th, 2014 FORMAT 54 holes of stroke play FIELD 72 European Seniors Tour professionals PURSE US $750,000; US $120,000 to the champion CHARITY Ronald MacDonald House Charities Latvia SCHEDULE OF EVENTS TUESDAY, August 5th, 2014 SATURDAY, August 9th, 2014 • Professional Practice Rounds • Third Round of Professional Play WEDNESDAY, August 6th, 2014 SUNDAY, August 10th, 2014 • Professional Practice Rounds • Final Round of Professional Play • Ozo Pro-Am – 10:00 am • Awards Ceremony 18th Green • Pairings Party – 6:00 pm THURSDAY, August 7th, 2014 • Latvian Seniors Open Pro-Am FRIDAY, August 8th, 2014 • First Round of Professional Play BRIG PARI President, Brig International LLC EMAIL [email protected] PHONE 571-294-6384 NICK GREEN President, MacDuff Consulting EMAIL [email protected] PHONE 301-656-0615 5 THE LATVIAN SENIORS OPEN 2014 TITLE SPONSOR The Title Sponsor of the event is the major Sponsor and the company name will appear in the title of the event as well as in all communications relating to the event.
