Hopefully the sun will con- tinue to shine, not least on our place in France where we will spend a couple of weeks, entertain- ing grandchildren, seeing old friends and going on our annual wine search. And if what ‘Brexit Means Brexit’ actually means is beginning to be- come a little clearer, one can’t help wondering what Brexit will mean for our stays in France. Will we be as unwelcome as some EU citizens currently feel here in the UK? After over twenty years we’ve made friends with many French people and re- gard our French place as much as home as our one OPEN DAY VISITORS –2015 in the UK. A major feature is that waste is carried by sea-currents around the oceans – the quantities are immense: packs hundreds of kilometres long and wide. Result: damage to coral and other sea-growths, ingestion of the now tiny particles by fish not recog- nising that the substances are not food. In fact, the fish suffer greatly in the long run. Humans also are affect- ed to some extent. One clearance-effort: guiding the huge blocks to the land and then recycling or burning them, which is a huge problem in itself. The real solution must be a firm international agreement to reduce commercial packaging which is an easy, convenient and attractive way of selling foods, goods etc (most of which is not essential?). We had a very lively discussion showing our concern for the future of the planet. Tom Gilmore __________________________________________________________________________________________ SINGING FOR FUN Happily we can announce that our Singing for Fun group re-commenced its singing sessions last Friday, 9th September. This group, which has attracted a large number of members who enjoy simply singing for the pure enjoyment of doing so, welcomes new members and would love to find a pianist who would be prepared to accompany them in their efforts. There must be someone out there whose talents can stretch to such a task: concert standard definitely not required! If YOU think you could help, please contact either Geoff Woods or Helen Salisbury—details on pages 3 and 12. ‘I’m Singing in the Rain, I’m Singing in the Rain….’ __________________________________________________________________________________________ CHRISTMAS LUNCH Our Christmas Lunch 2016 will be on Wednesday December 14th at Hothorpe Hall (Time 12.30 for 1pm).
