The new album shares its name with DMX’s son Exodus Simmons. A source tells Variety that guests on the album include Jay-Z, Nas, Bono of U2 (on a song called “Skyscrapers”), Usher (on the closing track “Letter to My Son”), Snoop Dogg, Alicia Keys. Lil Wayne and the Lox. Sources also say that Pop Smoke collaboration was planned for the album but dropped at the last minute, as was a track with Buffalo rap combo Griselda, “Shady Blues”; a song called “X Moves” released online last month — a collaboration with the bizarre combination of musicians P-Funk bassist Bootsy Collins, Yes guitarist Steve Howe and Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice — also will not appear on the album. It is unclear whether “Been to War,” a song from the Epix TV series “Godfather of Harlem” that also features Swizz and French Montana released a week after DMX’s death on April 9, will appear on the album. According to the announcement, “Themes of redemption weave throughout ‘Exodus,’ the first Def Jam album by DMX in 18 years, since 2003’s ‘Grand Champ.’ The new album shares its name with DMX’s son Exodus Simmons. Just a week after DMX’s death, a new track called “Been to War,” featuring the rapper, Swizz and French Montana, was released, although it was from the Epix series “Godfather of Harlem” and presumably had been in the works for several weeks. It is unclear whether that song will be featured on “Exodus.” The album artwork is by original photographer Jonathan Mannion, who captured some of the most memorable images of DMX throughout his career. Music Psychotherapy with Refugee Survivors of Torture. Interpretations of Three Clinical Case Studies. Sibelius Academy, Studia Musica 44. Music Education Department. Doctoral dissertation, 245 pages. The clinical data for this research were derived from three music psychotherapy cases of torture victims who in 2002 to 2004 lived as either asylum seekers or refugees in Finland. The patients were all traumatized men, originating from Central Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East, who received music therapy sessions as part of their rehabilitation. Music therapy was offered weekly or bi-monthly for the duration of one to two years. Music listening techniques, such as projective listening, guided imagery, and free association were applied in a psychoanalytic frame of reference. Data included 116 automatically audio recorded and transcribed therapy sessions, totalling over 100 hours of real time data that were both qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed by the researcher. While previous studies have examined refugees and other trauma sufferers, and some articles have even discussed music therapy among torture survivors, this is one of the first empirical research studies of music therapy specifically among patients who are survivors of torture.
