Thom. Cummings was a petit juror Dec. 9, 1741 in New Hanover County, NC 2 “White Oak, in Onslow County [North Carolina]. Epheram Swift, deceased. Will November 4, 1744...Witness Thos. Cummins. 3 “Page 29 Duplin County List of Capt. Stallin’s District taken by Danl Teachy & returned April 1786, Page 1.” “Page 119 Onslow County ‘A list of soles [souls] of the Upper So. W. Dist. Cummins WM 21-60: 1; WM under 21 & above 60: 4; WF all ages: 3.” 4 From the Duplin County, NC wills is found the will, probated January Term of Court, 1798, of Thos. Children in the order as named in the will of Thomas Cummins quoted below; in addition the 1790 census indicates three probable daughters and North Carolina Wills lists William Cummins as a probable son: + 2. The following quotation was found on Genforum.com, Cummins Forum, posting number 174, of Oct. 24, 1998: “The will of Thomas CUMMINS/COMMANS of Duplin County, N.C., abstracts of wills, here is what it does say (spelling unchanged): 10 May 1796 - Jan Term 1798. Sons Thomous, Benjeman & Hugh the plase whare I now live with my beloved wife (not named) haveing hur thurds of the same plase hur life time; sons George & Aaron 150 acors on the Et. side of No. Et. River; son James 100 acors in the No. side Island Creek; all my goods and chttels to kept togather until sum one of my children shall part off from the rest. extrs: son Thomous & Timmothy Techey. witness: Andrew Thally, John Thally. Signed: Thomas Cummins” Thomas Cummings appears in the 1790 Census of Duplin County, NC as: Thomas Cummings males 2-5-4-0-0. Soldier lived in Duplin Co. NC in 1790 and had one older male and five younger males, and three females with wife in his household. Soldier was born about 1744. Soldier wrote his will in 1796 and it was probated in 1798. Six sons are listed in his will: 1-Thomas Cummings 1767, 2- Benjamin Cummings, 3-Hugh Cummings who married 5 April 1810 Susan Wells, 4-George Cummings who married 3 Jan 1807 Zilpha Byrd, 5-Aaron Cummings 1772 who married 1 Jan 1804 Rachel Hall and was living in Sampson in 1820, and 6-James Cummings. Wife and daughters not listed. There were apparently daughters as listed in the 1785 state tax list and 1790 US Census for Duplin. “ There is an excellent possibility that the father of Thomas Cummins was the Thos. Thomas Cummins (Junior); is shown in the Duplin County, NC 1800 Census as: Thomas Cummins, males 0-0-0-1-0; females 1-0-0-1-0; all others 0; Slaves 0. Thomas Cummins is shown in the Duplin County, NC 1810 Census as: Thomas Cummins; males 2-0-0-1-0; females 1-1-1-1-0; ; all others 0; Slaves 0. 3. Benjamin Cummins ; living May 10, 1796; not traced. One “Benjamin Cummins” is shown in the 1820 Census of Wilson County, TN, page 18, as: males 2-0-0-0-1-1; females 1-0-1-0-1; identity unknown. 8 4. Hugh Cummins ; living May 10, 1796; married April 5, 1810, Susan Wells. Hugh Cummins is not further traced. One “Hugh Cummings” is shown in the 1820 Census of Wilson County, TN, page 418, as: males 1-1-0-1-1-0; females 0-0-0-0-1, identity unknown. 9 6. George Cummins ; living May 10, 1796; married Jan. 3, 1807, Zilpha Byrd .. George Cummins is enumerated in the 1810 Census of Duplin County, NC, as: George Cummins; males 3-1-0-1-0; females 2-1-0-2-0; ; all others 0; Slaves 1. 7. Aaron Cummins ; born North Carolina, 1779-1780; living Robertson County, TN, 1830 and Montgomery County, TN, 1840 and 1850; and probably died there; married in Duplin County, 8 Tennessee 1820 Census Index by Ronald Vern Jackson and G.
