OpenJDK licensing information for linking with JamaicaVM libraries

The JamaicaVM libraries link with the OpenJDK to provide OpenJDK APIs for applications. Licensing for linking with the portions of the OpenJDK used by JamaicaVM libraries are governed by the following licenses: GNU Public License V2 with Exception Lesser GNU Public License V2 (LGPLv2)

This is the complete GNU Classpath Exception text:

Linking this library statically or dynamically with other modules is making a combined work based on this library. Thus, the terms and conditions of the GNU General Public License cover the whole combination.

As a special exception, the copyright holders of this library give you permission to link this library with independent modules to produce an executable, regardless of the license terms of these independent modules, and to copy and distribute the resulting executable under terms of your choice, provided that you also meet, for each linked independent module, the terms and conditions of the license of that module. An independent module is a module which is not derived from or based on this library. If you modify this library, you may extend this exception to your version of the library, but you are not obligated to do so. If you do not wish to do so, delete this exception statement from your version.

The GNU Classpath Exception license enables the JamaicaVM runtime to link with the OpenJDK API Java class libraries while preserving aicas's license terms of the JamaicaVM runtime.

The full text of the LGPL may be found at this URL: https://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.html. Two relevant excerpts are provided below:

4. Combined Works "You may convey a Combined Work under terms of your choice that, taken together, effectively do not restrict modification of the portions of the Library contained in the Combined Work and reverse engineering for debugging such modifications... " and

5. Combined Libraries "You may place library facilities that are a work based on the Library side by side in a single library together with other library facilities that are not Applications and are not covered by this License, and convey such a combined library under terms of your choice... "

The LGPL enables the JamaicaVM to link with portions of the OpenJDK API class libraries that are written in or C++ while preserving aicas's license terms of the JamaicaVM runtime.

Taken together, these licenses enable the JamaicaVM toolchain and runtime to support Java code written using the OpenJDK APIs and linked with the OpenJDK API class libraries. The resulting applications may be licensed according to the terms of the application developer provided such terms incorporate and do not conflict with the terms of the Aicas Object Code License and Distribution. Agreement.
