Secondary School Saidapet, Chennai was presided by Mrs. Delphin Devaraj, Vice Chairperson, of the institution. Mr Dr. D. Dev Anand, Secretary of the Institution, made special remarks and introduced the speakers. Mr K. Balachandar , Consultant, Explore The Space was the main Speaker. D.V Venkatagiri, Founder & CEO, Explore The Space outlined the objective of the venture. More than 70 students participated in the seminar. Key points of the Speech made by Mr. Balachandar Explore The Space ( ETS) is an initiative of The Global Trade Driver- an international form on Industry and education based in Chennai. It has an office in Atlanta in U.S.A. The objectives of ETS are to spread Space education and promote scientific Knowledge on space sciences among school and college students and teachers. To achieve these objectives ETS conducts seminars, workshops and study tours to Kennedy space Centre, Florida U.S.A The trip to Kennedy Space Centre will be an unforgeable experience in one's life time which includes visitor's complex I Max space Films, exhibits, shows, an afternoon lunch with an astronaut, meeting some VIPs of NASA Space Corps, Epcot Centre which Includes an 260 acres of Permanent World Fair with Pavilions of eleven countries. India has produced great astronomers and mathematicians like Aryabhata, Bhaskaracharya, Bharadwaj and in recent times Sir C.V.Raman,Srinivasa Ramanujam, J.V.Narukar etc. Indians discovered the number zero(0) which is considered as a greatest contribution of India to World Civilization. In the continuity of this scientific tradition and effects, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is achieving remarkable achievements in space sciences. Launching PSLV&ASLV rockets from Sriharikota of Andhra Pradesh has become a regular feature . After the presentation by Mr. Balachandar, there was a lively quiz competition in which the students participated with great enthusiasm. Effects of the December 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami on the Indian Mainland Alpa Sheth,a… Snigdha Sanyal,b… Arvind Jaiswal,c… and Prathibha Gandhid… The 26 December 2004 tsunami significantly affected the coastal regions of southern peninsular India. About 8,835 human lives were lost in the tsunami in mainland India, with 86 persons reported missing. Two reconnaissance teams traveled by road to survey the damage across mainland India. Geographic and topological features affecting tsunami behavior on the mainland were observed. The housing stock along the coast, as well as bridges and roads, suffered extensive damage. Structures were damaged by direct pressure from tsunami waves, and scouring damage was induced by the receding waves. Many of the affected structures consisted of nonengineered, poorly constructed houses belonging to the fishing community. ͓DOI: 10.1193/1.2208562͔ MAINLAND AREAS SURVEYED The Great Sumatra earthquake of 26 December 2004 did not cause shaking-induced damage to the mainland of India, but the consequent Indian Ocean tsunami had a sig- nificant effect on the southern peninsular region of India ͑Jain et al. 2005͒. The tsunami severely affected the coastal regions of the eastern state of Tamil Nadu, the union terri- tory of Pondicherry, and the western state of Kerala. Two reconnaissance teams under- took road trips to survey the damage across mainland India. One team traveled from the Ernakulam district in Kerala, then continued south along the west coast to the southern- most tip of mainland India ͑Kanyakumari͒ and up along the east coast to Tuticorin. The coastal journey was then resumed from Nagapattinam, moved northward, and concluded at Chennai.

Whereas, a reciprocal agreement in regard to the plying of transport vehicles on Inter-State routes was entered into between the Governments of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in G.O. Ms. No. 899, Home, dated the 12th April, 1985 and published with the Home Department, Notification No. II (2)/HO/1990 (h)/1985 at pages 1-14 in Part II—Section 2 of the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette Extraordinary, dated the 19th April 1985. And Whereas, the Governments of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have agreed to enter into a first supplemental agreement under Section 88 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (Central Act 59 of 1988), in respect of operation of Stage Carriage Services by the State Transport Undertakings and Private Operators on Inter-State routes and also countersignature of goods carriage permits. Now, therefore, the following draft of the first Supplemental reciprocal agreement between the Governments of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, is hereby published, as required under sub-Section (5) of Section 88 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (Central Act 59 of 1988).
