The movies have always had a complicated relationship with sex, whether through honest portraits of human intimacy or salacious spectacle appealing to base desire.

Both have played a defining role in the history of cinema as the movies pushed boundaries and the self-appointed moral watchdogs pushed back. It’s still the most contentious of controversies, and the roots go back to the first movies.
