FAIRYTALES COME TO LIFE IN PLAYHOUSE’S BIGGEST MUSICAL YET INTO THE WOODS, JULY 22 – AUGUST 23, SPRINGER THEATRE

GANANOQUE, ON – Not every story at Thousand Islands Playhouse can end “happily ever after”. Opening on July 22, INTO THE WOODS is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairytales. It intertwines the plots of a few choice stories to explore the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. The humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel. The tale is all tied together by an original story about a baker and his wife who go on a journey to reverse a curse, put on them by the witch next door. The show was nominated for ten Tony Awards when it opened on Broadway in 1987, winning Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical. The Hollywood film released in 2014 also received three Academy Award nominations. “INTO THE WOODS is Stephen Sondheim’s most popular work, and it happens to be one of my favourite musicals,” says Playhouse Artistic Director Ashlie Corcoran, who is directing the show. “What is so great about this piece in particular, is that it is full of familiar stories and unfamiliar surprises; it is a celebration of family, of purpose, and of overcoming obstacles in a community. Beautiful and thoughtful, I know this piece will enchant and delight our audiences.” The formidable cast and creative team will bring the storybook tales to life through incredible music, costumes, choreography, and design (full list attached). Show Times: Tuesdays at 7:30 pm, Wednesday to Saturday at 8:00 pm. Matinees Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday at 2:30 pm (starting the Sunday after opening) Running Time: 2 hours and 30 minutes Pricing: Regular Ticket - $32, 65 Plus - $30, Under 30 - $20
