Working together is success. - Henry Ford Yesterday the 1st May, WDNA held day 1 of The Liz Ellis players’ clinic at the Kingsway Netball centre. All players had a great time and learnt and improved their netball skills. They also had the chance to meet and learn from Liz Ellis and some of the West Coast Falcons athletes. The second of the two Clinics will be run today. Registrations are now being taken for the Junior Falcons Cup, see flyer the flyer in this edition of Focus on Falcons and contact WCNR - [email protected] for more information. Player’s Name DOB Suburb Post Code Adopt a Falcon ADOPT A WEST COAST FALCON The West Coast Netball Region are giving primary schools and club teams with players aged from 7 to 12 the opportunity to adopt a West Coast Falcons player or players. The cost of “adoption” is $200.00 per Falcons player. For this your team will receive: A West Coast Falcons player to attend 2 x 45 minute training sessions at either the team’s school training venue or their training venue at WDNA or JNA. The Falcons will deliver two training sessions that will be suitable for the age of the team. Your team is to supply the training equipment (balls, cones and bibs etc) Your “adopted” Falcons player will attend either JNA or WDNA to watch a full game played by the team – as a supporter and mentor to the players. The West Coast Netball Region will arrange for the team to attend a Smarter Than Smoking State Netball League game (either at Arena or Challenge Stadium). The team will sit with the Falcons players and have their photo taken with the players. The team will also receive an autographed laminated team poster. This is a unique opportunity to have up close interaction between West Coast Falcons Players and grass roots netball. I can confidently say that netball has never been more firmly cemented as the leading women’s sport in the community, and our game has never been in a stronger position, nor more accessible to those who want to play. As we approach the end of our five-year Strategic Plan cycle, 2017 was not only filled with incredible achievements and milestones throughout the State, but largely centred around the development of the 2018-2022 Strategic Plan to guide us over the next horizon, which received binding ratification from the Netball WA Board at its final meeting of the year. Through four Strategic Pillars; namely People & Culture, Participation, Pathway and Business Performance, and with a vision to be the sport of choice in Western Australia, this Plan will empower participants at every level to take control of their netball destiny, shape their journey and work together toward our common purpose: “Advancing Netball, Advancing Communities.” 2017 began with the establishment of West Coast Fever Netball Club Limited as a wholly owned subsidiary of Netball WA (Inc).

    Fever Finalise 2013 Squad West Coast Fever are pleased to be the first ANZ Championship team to have finalised their squad for the upcoming 2013 season. The signing of former Perth Orioles shooter Lisa Millman (nee Wilkinson) completes Plummer’s squad of 12 and rewards the 31 year old local for years of tenacious athleticism. Whilst Millman was bought in as a replacement player and benched for the injured Sarah East in the 2012 season, this is her first contract to play in the ANZ Championships. “Excellent!” said Lisa today when asked how she was feeling about the news. “It’s an amazing surprise, especially following the opportunity to line up last year and train with the squad - I couldn’t be more excited.” Millman had a short break from netball following her Orioles career to recover from an ACL reconstruction, but has since been a regular feature in the Smarter than Smoking State Netball League with the West Coast Falcons (Premiers 2012), and the WA Australian Netball League Squad - Western Sting. She currently works as a Service Co-ordinator for a local car dealership whilst also being the Regional Development Officer for the West Coast Netball Region, and is an integral member of the Wanneroo Netball Association community. Speaking of the signing, Plummer is pleased to add another experienced player to the roster, “Lisa brings another level of maturity to the team, and is very adaptable at goal shooter, goal attack and wing attack. “She has had a great ANL campaign, and following what we saw of her when she joined us for a few weeks last season; I am looking forward to working with her and the team on a full time basis.” West Coast Fever 2013 memberships are on sale now, and with the whole squad now named and one of the seven home games to be held at the brand new Perth Arena; there is plenty to be excited about.

    2016/2017 53rd Annual Report The relentless pursuit of improved quality of life for everyone living with asthma A year of change The 2017 Financial year has been one of many changes. We farewelled long standing CEO David Johnson and I thank David sincerely for his six years of service. David’s departure offered the opportunity to re-structure the Asthma Foundation team, and we are very pleased to have successfully recruited CEO Samantha Tough and COO Ian Craig. Together these two are a remarkable team with a combined sixty years in the corporate and not-for-profit industries. At our last report the Asthma Foundation was in potential merger discussions with national body Asthma Australia. After long (very long) discussions the Board made the decision not to merge with Asthma Australia. This decision may be reviewed down the track, but at the moment our strategic plan is being updated and exciting changes are ahead. There have been changes at the Board level as well, I would like to thank resigning Board members Anjie Brook and Graham Hall for their service. For our final change, I will be stepping down as President of the Asthma Foundation after this year. I want to thank the Board, staff and supporters of the Asthma Foundation for their generous commitment of time, skills and resources, you have been an inspiration. As someone who has asthma myself I have appreciated the presence of the Asthma Foundation and their work in the community. Working with them directly in my capacity as Board Member, Chairman and briefly Executive Director has allowed me an in depth look at the empathy, knowledge and quality of care that our Respiratory Health Educators provide, and I know that I am leaving the people with asthma in WA in good hands.
