State Party Chair Wayne Goodwin and State First Vice Chair Bobbie Richardson proudly joined Cozzie in this historic picture. Jin just became an American citizen on June 26th when he was adopted by Dwight’s son and daughter-in-law. STEPHANIE WHITLEY FEATURED IN AD WITH GOVERNOR COOPER! Stephanie Whitley joined Governor Roy Cooper in a new TV commercial which was released statewide on August 26th. Stephanie is the daughter of NCDP Secretary Melvin Williams. This is a paid political ad which supports Governor Cooper’s campaign to get all North Carolinians to wear masks. Jackson County Democrats are taking this time to clean up and spruce up their Headquarters building in Sylva, their county seat. Roy Osborne and Myrtle Schrader have supervised deep cleaning inside and out. The county party has put new signs at their Headquarters. These are hard to miss for anyone driving through Sylva! Dr. Grace Galloway led a happy Heritage Month Celebration for the NCDP Asian American Pacific Islander Caucus! As we all know, when Gracie decides to do something, nothing can slow her down! TriCounty Democratic Women Club report that in this unusual election season, it is hard for them to meet and talk with our statewide Democratic candidates. Their club is made up of women in Cherokee, Swain, and Graham counties. Gayle Warren says: “Thank goodness for computers, Zoom meetings, and our hard-working DW President, Susan Landis. Due to them we had a meaningful meeting.” On July 21st, TriCounty Democratic Women hosted a Town Hall Zoom meeting with our three candidates for seats on the Supreme Court of North Carolina. Chief Justice Cheri Beasley is shown in the large picture on the left above. Judge Lucy Inman is in the top small picture on the right. Justice Mark Davis was in the Zoom event also. Western North Carolina Democrats on marching toward victories in November! TRICOUNTY DW MAKE THEMSELVES VISIBLE! This same TriCounty DW Club has adopted picking up trash on a two-mile stretch of highway as a civic beautification project. Their territory is on Highway 19 Business from near the Murphy Post Office to Natural Springs Drive. The sign proclaiming their name “TRI-COUNTY WOMEN’S DEMOCRATIC CLUB” draws lots of attention from drivers - every day. The three members in the picture on the left recently picked up trash on the entire two-mile stretch. From the left they are Linda Shaw, Nancy Woodard, and Beverly Chasten. Congratulations, Tri-County Democratic Women! RENEE PRICE SALUTED AS “COUNTY COMMISSIONER OF THE YEAR! At the August 12th meeting, the Board of Directors of NC Association of County Commissioners honored Orange County’s Renee Price by naming her the state’s “2020 COUNTY COMMISSIONER OF THE YEAR!” KENNIS & BRENDA WITH THE STARS! Longtime Democratic leaders, Kennis and Brenda Wilkins of Greenville, recently met with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Congressman G. K. Butterfield. LET’S ELECT JUDGE REUBEN YOUNG! Judge Reuben Young and his wife, Pam, are showing respect and concern for every person with whom they interact by wearing patriotic masks. They deeply care about all North Carolinians! Judge Young was appointed by Governor Roy Cooper to the NC Court of Appeals on April 15, 2019. We need to get him elected to a full eight-year term in the November General Election! As the public safety and the corrections sections of our state government have undergone reorganization several times, Judge Young has held the following positions: - Interim Chief Deputy Secretary of Adult Corrections and Juvenile Justice - Secretary of the former Department of Crime Control & Public Safety, 2009 – 2011 - First Secretary of the newly consolidated Department of Public Safety, 2012 - Special Superior Court Judge for the 10th Judicial District of North Carolina Judge Young earned his undergraduate degree at Howard University and earned his law degree at North Carolina Central University School of Law. Dorian Palmer’s campaign for a seat on the Burke County Commission has energized lots of Burke County citizens. Dorian’s wife, Harmony, joined him for the happy picture above. After graduating from Freedom High School in Morgantown, Dorian decided to pursue his passion for political activities in partnership with the Burke County Democratic Party. Currently Dorian proudly serves as the Western Regional Director of the Young Democrats of North Carolina. He also spends his time serving as Board Chair of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina, fulfilling his aspirations to serve the young communities. Dorian also serves on the Burke County Planning Board, the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council for Burke County and he is a Commissioner on the Cable Television Board for the City of Morganton. Dorian with a group of outstanding Democratic leaders including 10th Congressional District Chair Doug Auer, 10th Congressional District candidate David Wilson Brown (in center,) State YD President Devonte Wilson (in red) and State YD Secretary Shannon Auer. Dorian is a Certified Lay Servant in the United Methodist Church and serves on the Board of Laity for the Catawba Valley District of the United Methodist Church. From 2014 through 2019 he was honored to have the opportunity to serve as a Director on the Board of the Burke County United Way. During his free time Dorian enjoys visiting North Carolina’s diverse range of craft breweries. He is also serving as a foster parent to a 7-month-old. Dorian is a Correctional Officer for the State of North Carolina. GOALS! Short term: Dorian’s short term goals include running a successful campaign to flip a seat on the longtime Republican-held Burke County Board of Commissioners. Long term: Dorian would like to start a family with his wife, Harmony, and continue to serve on the Board of Commissioners. He also hopes to continue his career with the State of North Carolina. Dorian is excited to spend many years serving as a voice for change for those who have felt they have been left out by local officials for far too long. Burke County Democratic Party Chair Pam Genant says: “Dorian Palmer is an energetic young Democrat who wants to see positive change in Burke County. Democrats all across the state were excited when they learned that one of our state’s most successful and respected attorneys, Gray Styers of Raleigh, had filed to run for the NC Court of Appeals! When asked why he was running for the Court of Appeals, Gray replied: “I am running because after a successful career in private law practice, I want to now give back to my fellow North Carolinians and serve you on the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
