Best in Show Redshirt sophomore guard J.C. Show exploded for 34 points in BU’s 72-70 win over visiting CCSU on Nov. 16. Show tied school records for points, three-pointers (8) and field goals (12) and hit the game-winning trey with 22 seconds remaining. He shot 12-of-16 from the floor, including 8-of-11 from beyond the arc. In the second half, Show hit 8-of-10 shots, good for 24 points. His highlight reel made ESPN’s SportsCenter that night.

Beck and Rodriguez closing in on 1,000-point milestone Senior guard Marlon Beck (885 pts.) and junior forward Willie Rodriguez (861 pts.) are within striking range of the 1,000-point plateau and each would only have to average 6 points a game to get there this season. There have been 18 players to reach the 1,000-point club in BU’s 69-year basketball history. Just two four-year Division I players (Troy Hailey and Mike Gordon) have reached the plateau. The last time two BU teammates reached the 1,000-point mark in the same season was Jeffrey St. Fort and Mike Wright during the 2001-02 season. St. Fort is also the last Binghamton player to reach the mark in three years. Division I-II era 1,000-point scorers Jeffrey St. Fort (1999-03)...... 1,335 pts. Rodriguez on record pace Halfway through his collegiate career, junior forward Willie Rodriguez is on pace to become the school’s all-time Division I scoring and rebounding leader. He begins the season with 830 points and 375 rebounds. Doubling each of those totals would place Rodriguez atop the scoring list (by more than 500 pts) and rebounding list (by more than 150 rebs.). He’s no stranger to big numbers though. Rodriguez tallied 2,018 points and 946 rebounds during his four years at East River High School in Orlando, Fla. Rodriguez named to AE Preseason All-Conference Team Junior forward Willie Rodriguez was named one of the top-six players in the conference heading into the 2016-17 season, according to the league’s nine head coaches. It’s the eighth time BU has had a player selected to the preseason honor. Show will make his Bearcats’ debut on Nov. 11 after transferring from Bucknell and then sitting out last season per NCAA rules. Show, a Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Pennsylvania in 2014, tallied 1,950 points in high school and then was a key member of Bucknell’s NIT season two winters ago. He is expected to make a significant impact in BU’s lineup this year and has three seasons of eligibility remaining. Bruce adds bulk, ready for breakout season in post Sophomore center Thomas Bruce has added 25 pounds of muscle to his 6-foot-9 frame and Coach Tommy Dempsey is excited about his potential for a breakout season in 2016-17. Bruce started 19 games at center as a freshman and averaged 6.8 points and 5.0 rebounds. He led the team in field goal percentage (58% vs. AE) and was third in the conference with 29 dunks. Bruce’s roots begin at famed DeMatha Catholic, where as a senior he led the elite high school program to 33 wins. Big roster means depth, balanced minutes Dempsey has 16 healthy players to start the season (15 eligible to compete) – the largest number of roster players he’s had in his five years at Binghamton. Barring injuries, the surplus of talent will allow Dempsey to spread his minutes more evenly, particularly among a deep backcourt. In each of the last two seasons, four players averaged 27 or more minutes a game with Beck (32.8) and Rodriguez (31.5) logging the most last season – both of which ranked among the top-10 in the America East.

Muhammad brings smooth stroke from Montverde Freshman guard Fard Muhammad gives the Bearcats a new three-point threat this season. He shot 41 percent last year in his final season at Montverde Academy (Fla.), one of the elite prep programs in the nation. A former teammate of NBA No. 1 pick Ben Simmons, Muhammad helped Montverde cap a 31-1 season with a national title in 2015. He drilled five three- pointers en route to 20 points in the title-game win over Oak Hill at and in front of an ESPN audience. Emergence of Davis, Rose bolsters backcourt Sophomore guards Everson Davis and Timmy Rose showcased valuable skills and grit during their freshman campaigns. Davis earned a starting role immediately and led the team in assists (2.5/game) and ranked third in scoring (9.4/game) while averaging nearly 29 minutes a game. As Davis was slowed by injury in February, Rose helped pick up the slack, nearly tripling his minutes over the last 12 games of the season. Rose averaged 10.5 points and 4.0 assists over his final four games, includ- ing a splendid 15-point, eight-rebound, four-assist performance against New Hampshire in the America East quarterfinals. Healthy Perovic banking on National team experience Junior forward Dusan Perovic had a summer to remember, competing with the Montenegro National Team in tournaments in China. Now 21 months removed from an ACL injury that cut short his freshman season and limited his production last winter, Perovic is eying a return to the form he brought to campus back in 2014. In 15 games as a freshman, he averaged 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds. The 6-foot-9 center was a matchup nightmare, thanks to 45 percent shooting from beyond the arc and a jump hook in the low post. His signature game was a BU record-tying 34-point performance at on Dec. 3, 2014. In that game, Perovic drilled 6-of-8 threes. Last season, he put up 24 points against Albany and hit double- figures four more times but still feeling the effects of the long rehab, shot just 30 percent from long range. Three products of Northern Pa. AAU program reunite Binghamton now sports a trio of Scranton, Pa. area teammates who are all products of JBHoops AAU program. Senior John Rinaldi hails from Dunmore, which is also Coach Dempsey’s hometown. Redshirt sophomore J.C. Show is from Clarks Sum- mit and sophomore Timmy Rose hails from Scranton. Throughout their teenage years, all three overlapped with JBHoops. Rinaldi and Show were teammates at various age levels. Show and Rose also were teammates after battling against each other for high school rivals Abington Heights (Show) and Scranton Prep (Rose).
