Almost all the workplaces were shut about for 66 days from 26 March 2020. As a result, the number of workplace deaths is little bit low than previous year 2019, but not that much low as it is supposed to be. Every year Safety and Rights Society (SRS) is monitoring newspaper for collecting and preserving information on workplace accidents and the number of victims of those accidents and publish a report after conducting the yearly survey – this year report is the tenth in the series. SRS depends not only the newspapers as the source for information but it also accumulated some information from online media and through personal contact with workers representative organizations. This year 26 newspapers (15 national and 11 regional) were monitored and the present report includes information on workplace deaths (as well as injuries that took place in the same incident that resulted in the deaths) throughout 2020. -

Naimur Rahman* Department of Geography and Environmental Science, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur 5400, Bangladesh Abstract Cropping pattern means the proportions of area under various crops at a point of time. This paper provides a comprehensive assessment of crop pattern, crop productivity using climate, water and crop yield models. The existing studies present that climate change models with higher spatial resolution can be a way forward for future projections. Various types of statistics, other secondary data and primary questionnaire method was applied to measure and analysis the problem. The cropping pattern differs from macro to micro region, both in space and time and is governed largely by the physical, cultural and technological factors. For the purpose of agricultural regionalization and planning, it is necessary to divide the area/ region into homogeneous region on some well-defi ned basis. Increased crop production could be expected if the irrigated areas expansion prevails. In addition, it will lead degradation of the environmental phenomenon. The different crop pattern of this region varies the diversifi cation of several discussed strength including soil, erosion, fl ooding, waterlogging, precipitation, source of irrigation and others. -

July 01, SITUATION REPORT 2010 Name of Disaster: River Erosion Locations: Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Rangpur, Gaibandha, Sirajgonj and Bogra district of Bangladesh Date of Disaster: June 30, 2010 Situation Report No.187 Lalmonirhat At least 150 families at four villages of Sadar and Aditmari upazilas became homeless in the two days as erosion by the rivers Teesta and Dharla took an alarming turn in the areas. The two rivers continued erosion forcing the villagers to leave their homesteads for safer places. The affected villages are Kutirpar and Gobordhan in Aditmari upazila, Boalmari and Badaitari in Lalmonirhat Sadar, said administration sources. Kurigram Gaburjan, Majhipara and Modonchar villages of Ulipur and Rajibpur upazilas demolished in the two days as erosion by the river Brahmaputra took an alarming turn in the areas. The river continued erosion forcing the villagers to leave their homesteads for safer places. Continuous river erosion is now threatening by forwarding towards the Rajibpur flood protection embankment. Rangpur Around 200 families at twelve villages of Bodorgonj upazila became homeless in the two days as erosion by the river Jamuneshwari took an alarming turn in the areas. The homeless people are passing a miserable life under the open sky. The badly affected villages are lohanipara union: Mdhaikhaamr, Boirampur, Jelepara, Katchabari village; Modhupur union: Amrolbari, Tufanipara village; Bishnupur union: Bishnupur village; Kutubpur union: Shahebgonj, Hajipara, Katchabari village; Ramnathpur: Telipara village; and Kalupar union: Shonkorpur village. Gaibandha: In Gaibandha, the water in Bramaputra river marked sharp rise. The badly flood affected areas are Shaghata, Sadar and Sundorgonj upazila. River erosion took serious turn in 21 points in the affected areas. -

Furthermore, the intensity of poverty gets worse by high levels of vulnerability due to increasing frequency and magnitude of natural disasters in the coastal areas adjacent to the Bay of Bengal. The common disasters in Bangladesh include floods, cyclones, tornadoes, river erosion, landslides, droughts and earthquakes as well as the affects of these disasters. The situation is further exaggerated by a continuous rise of population and lack of functional community- based disaster management strategies. -
