Druhá část předkládá seznam všech dosud zaznamenaných endoparazitických monogeneí , a to v podobě čtyř checklistů. Checklist parazit-hostitel je řazen abecedně a zahrnuje celkem 251 druhů patřících do 64 rodů a do 14 čeledí: Amphibdellatidae (3), Anoplodiscidae (1), Capsalidae (11), Dactylogyridae (56), Diclidophoridae (1), Gyrodactylidae (1), Hexabothriidae (1), Iagotrematidae (3), Lagarocotylidae (1), Microbothriidae (1), Monocotylidae (46), Montchadskyellidae (1), Polystomatidae (124) a Urogyridae (1). Dosavadní záznamy o endoparazitických monogeneích pocházejí z celého světa, přičemž mezi oblasti s největším počtem realizovaných výzkumů patří Afrika a Jižní Amerika. Abstract This thesis is a literature review dealing with the species diversity of monogeneans that live inside their hosts. The first part of the thesis includes basic characteristics of these parasites, with special emphasis on adaptations to endoparasitic mode of life. The second part provides listing of all hitherto reported endoparasitic monogeneans in the form of four checklists. Parasite – host checklist is sorted alphabetically and includes a total of 251 species belonging to 64 genera and 14 families: Amphibdellatidae (3), Anoplodiscidae (1), Capsalidae (11), Dactylogyridae (56), Diclidophoridae (1), Gyrodactylidae (1), Hexabothriidae (1), Iagotrematidae (3), Lagarocotylidae (1), Microbothriidae (1), Monocotylidae (46), Montchadskyellidae (1), Polystomatidae (124), and Urogyridae (1). In the host - parasite checklist, the hosts are listed systematically by their currently recognized scientific names, followed by alphabetically arranged listing of all monogeneans reported for the respective host. The most monogenean species were recorded from ray-finned fishes (108) and amphibians (108), followed by cartilaginous fishes (68) and reptiles (39). Most of the endoparasitic monogeneans were found in the urinary bladder, i.e. 173 species. Endoparasitic monogeneans were recorded all over the world. Most of them have been collected in Africa and South America. Doposud nebyl vytvořen komplexní seznam zaměřený pouze na endoparazitická monogenea, a to v rámci celého světa a napříč všemi hostitelskými skupinami. Druhá část je tvořena checklisty těchto parazitů, a to v těchto formách: parazit – hostitel, hostitel – parazit, parazit – hostitel dle lokality a checklist parazitů dle lokalizace v těle hostitele. Třetí část práce tvoří vyhodnocení výsledků. 10 1. MONOGENEA (PLATYHELMINTHES: NEODERMATA) 1.1. Základní charakteristika Monogenea patří spolu s motolicemi (Trematoda) a tasemnicemi (Cestoda) do taxonu Neodermata.

Du Preez et al. Parasites & Vectors (2017) 10:53 DOI 10.1186/s13071-017-1986-y RESEARCH Open Access Tracking platyhelminth parasite diversity from freshwater turtles in French Guiana: First report of Neopolystoma Price, 1939 (Monogenea: Polystomatidae) with the description of three new species Louis H. Du Preez1,2*, Mathieu Badets1, Laurent Héritier1,3,4 and Olivier Verneau1,3,4 Abstract Background: Polystomatid flatworms in chelonians are divided into three genera, i.e. Polystomoides Ward, 1917, Polystomoidella Price, 1939 and Neopolystoma Price, 1939, according to the number of haptoral hooks. Among the about 55 polystome species that are known to date from the 327 modern living chelonians, only four species of Polystomoides are currently recognised within the 45 South American freshwater turtles. Methods: During 2012, several sites in the vicinity of the cities Cayenne and Kaw in French Guiana were investigated for freshwater turtles. Turtles were collected at six sites and the presence of polystomatid flatworms was assessed from the presence of polystome eggs released by infected specimens. Results: Among the three turtle species that were collected, no polystomes were found in the gibba turtle Mesoclemmys gibba (Schweigger, 1812). The spot-legged turtle Rhinoclemmys punctularia (Daudin, 1801) was infected with two species of Neopolystoma Price, 1939, one in the conjunctival sacs and the other in the urinary bladder, while the scorpion mud turtle Kinosternon scorpioides (Linnaeus, 1766) was found to be infected with a single Neopolystoma species in the conjunctival sacs. These parasites could be distinguished from known species of Neopolystoma by a combination of morphological characteristics including body size, number and length of genital spines, shape and size of the testis.

  • Spatial Ecology and Fisheries Interactions of Rajidae in the Uk
UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHAMPTON FACULTY OF NATURAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES Ocean and Earth Sciences SPATIAL ECOLOGY AND FISHERIES INTERACTIONS OF RAJIDAE IN THE UK Samantha Jane Simpson Thesis for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY APRIL 2018 UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHAMPTON 1 2 UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHAMPTON ABSTRACT FACULTY OF NATURAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES Ocean and Earth Sciences Doctor of Philosophy FINE-SCALE SPATIAL ECOLOGY AND FISHERIES INTERACTIONS OF RAJIDAE IN UK WATERS by Samantha Jane Simpson The spatial occurrence of a species is a fundamental part of its ecology, playing a role in shaping the evolution of its life history, driving population level processes and species interactions. Within this spatial occurrence, species may show a tendency to occupy areas with particular abiotic or biotic factors, known as a habitat association. In addition some species have the capacity to select preferred habitat at a particular time and, when species are sympatric, resource partitioning can allow their coexistence and reduce competition among them. The Rajidae (skate) are cryptic benthic mesopredators, which bury in the sediment for extended periods of time with some species inhabiting turbid coastal waters in higher latitudes. Consequently, identifying skate fine-scale spatial ecology is challenging and has lacked detailed study, despite them being commercially important species in the UK, as well as being at risk of population decline due to overfishing. This research aimed to examine the fine-scale spatial occurrence, habitat selection and resource partitioning among the four skates across a coastal area off Plymouth, UK, in the western English Channel. In addition, I investigated the interaction of Rajidae with commercial fisheries to determine if interactions between species were different and whether existing management measures are effective.

  • Parasites and Their Freshwater Fish Host
Bio-Research, 6(1): 328 – 338 328 Parasites and their Freshwater Fish Host Iyaji, F. O. and Eyo, J. E. Department of Zoology, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State, Nigeria Corresponding author: Eyo, J. E. Department of Zoology, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State, Nigeria. Email: [email protected] Phone: +234(0)8026212686 Abstract This study reviews the effects of parasites of fresh water fish hosts. Like other living organisms, fish harbour parasites either external or internal which cause a host of pathological debilities in them. The parasites live in close obligate association and derive benefits such as nutrition at the host’s expense, usually without killing the host. They utililize energy otherwise available for the hosts growth, sustenance, development, establishment and reproduction and as such may harm their hosts in a number of ways and affect fish production. The common parasites of fishes include the unicellular microparasites (viruses, bacteria, fungi and protozoans). The protozoans i.e. microsporidians and mixozoans are considered in this review. The multicellular macroparasites mainly comprised of the helminthes and arthropods are also highlighted. The effects of parasites on their fish hosts maybe exacerbated by different pollutants including heavy metals and hydrocarbons, organic enrichment of sediments by domestic sewage and others such as parasite life cycles and fish population size. Keywords: Parasites, Helminths, Protozoans, Microparasites, Macroparasites, Debilities, Freshwater fish Introduction the flagellates have direct life cycles and affect especially the pond reared fish populations. Several studies have revealed rich parasitic fauna Microsporidians are obligate intracellular parasites in freshwater fishes (Onyia, 1970; Kennedy et al., that require host tissues for reproduction (FAO, 1986; Ugwuzor, 1987; Onwuliri and Mgbemena, 1996).

(2010): “Taxonomic Notes: Loiselle (1979) comments on the presence of dwarfed populations of an “elongatus-like” fish in Lakes Barombi Kotto and Mboandong, Cameroon and these may represent a distinct species.

Abstract This study reports the presence of Enterogyrus cichlidarum Paperna, 1963 (Monogenoidea: Ancyrocephalidae) in the stomach of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus Linnaeus, 1758, cultured in the State of Santa Catarina, Southern Brazil. A total of 98 fish originating from a fish pond culture in Joinville, South Brazil, were examined. The fish were collected in the winter of 2007, in the summer, autumn, winter and spring of 2008. After anesthetized and sacrificed in a benzocaine solution, their stomachs were removed, bathed in 55°C water, fixed in 5% formalin for quantification and attainment of the prevalence rate, mean intensity, mean abundance and mounted in Hoyer's. Prevalence rate throughout the period was 94%. The greatest mean intensities occurred in August 2008 and November 2008, followed by July 2007, January and May 2008. The great majority of Monogenoidea are branchial and cutaneous ectoparasites, however reports of its invasion in the internal organs are rare.
