"Life's most persistent and urgent question is; what are you doing for others?" -MLK OUR VISION For over a decade, MDC has helped establish rewarding relationships between thousands of individuals, businesses and charities who care deeply about the well-being of others and the community. Through our work (video production, event planning & consulting) we want to share stories that matter, organize events that build bridges, highlight extraordinary individuals, create simple and effective ways of giving back, and act as professional matchmakers. Our mission has always been to connect the people who want to help with the people who need help the most. From the start, we've witnessed heartbreaking scenarios where trauma and hardship causes a child or family to feel isolated and hopeless. Despite what we're taught, time is more precious than gold and we strive to make every day, hour and minute count. The world does not stop when tragedy strikes; but good people can and do. We enlist the help of caregivers across every business sector around the globe and rely on them to help us create special moments in time that bring hope and joy to those suffering through hardship. We've created an Active Response Team; an unofficial team of do-gooders who are willing to step up to the plate when needed. And just like the word "team" signifies, together everyone achieves more. MDC works by cause, not by client -- and in doing so, it allows us to foster collaboration and look after the interests of all involved. The impact we make by working together is more powerful and far-reaching than most individuals can achieve on their own. -

From Pearl Harbor (1941) to Pearl Harbor (2001)
COPAS—Current Objectives of Postgraduate American Studies 17.2 (2016) From Pearl Harbor (1941) to Pearl Harbor (2001): On the Emancipatory Potential of Nursing During Wartime and its Representation in Hollywood Film Susanne Bueechl ABSTRACT: This essay examines the representation of the nursing profession in the Hollywood movie Pearl Harbor (2001). As cultural products of their time, films tell us about the social and political conditions in which they were created. In the late 1990s and early 2000s a conservative feminist backlash, which Susan Faludi described as early as 1991 was still impacting the emancipation of women. In its often reactionary portrayal of the women nurses of World War II, Pearl Harbor seems to reflect more the situation of women in the 1990s than doing justice to the role of nurses during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Thus, through a cultural studies-informed analysis of the movie and its protagonist Evelyn Johnson, expectations of nurses during World War II will be examined and challenged. KEYWORDS: Pearl Harbor (film); World War II; Nursing; Emancipation; Gender; Feminism Introduction For decades, the discourse on the feminist movement before, during, and after World War II, was dominated by the notion that the war resulted in a backlash which “crippled the appeal and effect of feminism for almost half a century” (LeGates 288). While the war years had a considerable effect on emancipation due to the large incorporation of women into the work force, this development was also not without problems and did not mean that women achieved unequivocal equality. Particularly the years following the war are considered to have had an ebbing effect on women’s emancipation and thus on the achievement of social equality for women (LeGates 374). -

THE INFLUENCE OF NEOCONSERVATISM IN THE DEPICTION OF VIOLENT NON-NORMATIVE WOMEN IN EROTIC THRILLERS FROM 1980 TO 2000 by ILANA SLAVIT A THESIS Presented to the Department of Cinema Studies and the Robert D. Clark Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Arts June 2020 An Abstract of the Thesis of Ilana Slavit for the degree of Bachelor of Arts in the Department of Cinema Studies to be taken June 2020 Title: The Influence of Neoconservatism in the Depiction of Non-normative Women in Erotic Thrillers from 1980 to 2000 Approved: Peter Alilunas Primary Thesis Advisor U.S. erotic thrillers of the 1980s and 1990s are intrinsically intertwined with the socio-political history of the culture wars. Both the counter-culture movements and a laxation of cinematic censorship during the 1960s resulted in an increase in sex and violence on-screen, in addition to non-normative behavior. Thus, the culture wars began, with neoconservatives and antifeminists in the late 1970s to the 1990s pushing for traditional family values against a backdrop of loosening social mores. Violent non- normative women in erotic thrillers of the 1980s and 1990s highlighted antifeminist sentiments of the era through literalization of non-normative lifestyles as dangerous to traditional family values and U.S. culture. ii Acknowledgements I would like to thank Professor Alilunas for his guidance with film history and analysis, in addition to textual and formatting suggestions from a media studies lens. I would also like to thank Professor Millán for helping me to fully examine the film history from an intersectional feminist theory perspective. -
