There are hundreds of natural wonders located in this great state of . Many of these wonders lay closer to our front doorsteps than one might think. In an effort to encourage visitation of these nearby Georgia wonders, the eighth grade Georgia Studies classes are offering extra-credit for these visits and follow through of assignment details. The requirements for this optional extra-credit assignment are as follows:

1. Visit a natural wonder listed below, or one that has been PREAPPROVED by your teacher. 2. Enjoy your visit and document it with at least ten photos to turn in, one of these photos requires the students’ presence either in front of a sign at wonder or at an unmistakable landmark at the wonder. If access to a camera is an issue please see the teacher for assistance. 3. A one-page minimum report documenting the history of the landmark, it’s importance in Georgia today, or any other interesting details that add to the popularity of the wonder today.

This opportunity for extra-credit will only be available to students one time per semester grading period, and can be used in exchange for one test grade or two

classwork/homework grades. Traveling to any of these places does not guarantee credit for this assignment. All requirements must be met and report will be graded. This is an excellent opportunity for a student to improve their Georgia studies grade, but it must be taken seriously and have time well spent in order for the student to get the credit needed or desired.

Day Trip Options: Cloudland Canyon Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park Bald Mountain Tallulah Gorge Amicalola Falls World of Coca-Cola Sosebee Cove (off of 180 on the way to Suches) Atlanta Cyclorama and Civil War Museum The Chief Vann House Dahlonega Gold Museum and Mine Tour Pickett’s Mill Battlefield Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield Red Top Mountain Smithgall Woods Moccasin Creek Black Rock Mountain State Park Any other state park (no others are listed because of distance but all Georgia state parks are allowed)
