Unitary Candidates, Local Elections (May 6th, 2021) In May Buckinghamshire will see its biggest ever round of local elections. This is the most important local election in a generation, being the first unitary election. The following is a list of the high calibre Liberal Democrats standing as Unitary Candidates in the forthcoming election on May 6th, 2021. Some of the candidates listed below are already experienced, seasoned councillors. Candidates for Amersham & Chesham Bois Mark Roberts Mark Roberts is 57 years old and has lived in the Chilterns for most of his life and in Amersham for 15 years. Mark has worked as a management consultant leading projects for major corporate businesses and public services, most recently managing the impact on employees of working from home due to coronavirus. Jason Keeler Jason Keeler has a degree in Economics, lives in Amersham and is currently Director of Swimming for Amersham & Chesham clubs, managing their finances, performance programme & coaching structure. Jason said ‘I am passionate about housing and opportunities for young people as well as local green projects. If I am elected, I will work hard to achieve my pledges’. Dominic Pinkney Amersham resident Dominic is the Chief Executive of two charities and a social enterprise working to increase and develop volunteering and community participation, from large corporations to local volunteering. The charities he leads have been busy helping mobilise and coordinate volunteers to help those affected by Covid-19, including support for the vaccination programme. He passionately believes that communities are made stronger through volunteering efforts. Dominic loves the place and people of the Amersham area and would relish a chance to work hard for local residents and the environment. Candidates for Chalfont St Giles Toby Price Toby is a member of the Chesham & Amersham Liberal Democrats Executive. He joined the Party in 2015 and has worked since on issues such as Europe, Social Media and Party strategy. He is an IT Consultant working full-time in project management for large clients and is married with three more or less grown-up children and a spaniel. As a member of a local church, he also helps a number of charities and support networks. Toby passionately supports the Liberal Democrats' policy of fairer community. Olivier Eymery Olivier settled in the UK more than 25 years ago, having worked in France and Germany after graduating. He has spent most of his career in international supply chain roles with blue-chip companies of the Food Service industry and is at present employed in the Transport sector. He has been involved with a number of non-profit organisations, most recently Good Food Oxford, and is now looking at how he could be of service to our local community. Jon Asher Jon’s details will be updated shortly. Candidates for Chalfont St Peter Selina Kerr Selina lives in Gerrards Cross with her husband and three children. She has previously worked in senior business and marketing roles for a number of MNCs both in the UK and in the Middle East and Asia. She currently works as a consultant within the education sector. In her role on the Lib Dem committee, Selina has led a number of consultation projects among local residents relating to HS2, Adult Social Care and other local priorities. Selina is passionate about improving social mobility through education and making much needed reform to adult social care, particularly in light of the impact of Covid. Improvements in fundamental council services, particularly the sub-standard maintenance of roads and pavements is also a priority for her. Hilary Haworth Hilary Haworth grew up in Buckinghamshire, returning here to live and work in 2003. Hilary has had a varied career in business and education, including several years’ experience of non-profit governance with a national charity. She has worked and studied in Europe. She is now a self-employed music teacher, while contributing to community life in Bucks in a variety of ways. She has been part of local campaign work on issues related to farming, the environment and the green belt. Hilary places great value on Buckinghamshire’s sense of community, its diversity, its green spaces and its unique character. Bette Melling Bette was born and bred in Lancashire but has spent most of her adult life in Buckinghamshire. She worked in Whitehall for 30 years, mainly on trade and industry policy and in the Office of Manpower Economics. After retiring from the Civil Service, she was involved in the development of a quality standard for extra-curricular activities in schools which aimed to increase children’s interest in careers in business. Volunteer work includes seven years as a school governor and a key role in a project to fund and build a village playground. Bette is married with one daughter and two small granddaughters. Candidates for Chesham Mark Titterington Mark Titterington has lived in the Chilterns for over 15 years with his wife and two children. He is currently a Buckinghamshire Councillor representing Holmer Green and is the Liberal Democrat Shadow Cabinet member for Environment and Climate Change. He also serves on the Transport, Environment & Climate Change Select Committee and the East Buckinghamshire Planning Committee. In his professional life, Mark is the Head of Marketing and Public Affairs Europe for Indigo Agriculture, a global ag-tech start-up which is helping farming to become part of the solution to climate change. Frances Kneller Frances is passionate about social justice, addressing inequality and environmental sustainability. A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing, with a degree in Social Sciences, she spent much of her career in developing national housing policy, before setting up her own Housing Consultancy and Property Management companies. She is currently a Board member of Hightown Housing Association. Frances is also Chair of the Chesham Youth Centre and the Chiltern ToyBank. Kris (Krzysztof) Ochedowski Kris Ochedowski is a teacher who has worked in a variety of educational settings (including prison education) both in the UK and abroad. He is currently curriculum manager for a small independent college in London. Born in Amersham, and currently living in Chesham, he is part of the vibrant post-war Polish community who settled in the Chilterns. An alumnus of Chesham High School, he has a BA (Hons.) in Italian, and PGCE. His areas of interest include dealing with anti-social behaviour, lifelong learning, and supporting local opportunities for young people. Candidates for Chess Valley Ruth Juett Has lived in Chesham for 12 years, Ruth’s career has spanned many years as a Chief Officer for an N.G.O. specialising in minority communities. Now retired, Ruth volunteers at a Francis Chapter 2 bookshop in Chesham. She is also currently training as an administrator for a UK/European based animal rescue. Parveiz Aslam Parveiz is a semi-retired teacher who has lived in Chesham since 1982. He is married and has three children, all of whom have graduated from local schools. Due to his extensive local work, he received a Queen’s honours in 2008 for the services to the community of Chesham and Bucks. He is currently involved in a leadership, coaching and advisory capacity in a broad range of charities including South East Sunday Cricket league, National Asian Cricket Council, The Citizens Foundation, The Community Heartbeat Trust, Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator for Sunnyside Road, Chesham Mosque, Chesham Asian Welfare Society and Chesham Help for Coronavirus, to mention just a few! Roy Abraham Roy has lived in Chesham since 1981 having spent 16 years as a banker in the City and more recently with the Thames Valley Police as a Member of the Complaints, Integrity & Ethics Panel. He was a Community Engagement Advisor with the Chiltern Clinical Commissioning Group and worked as a Business & Finance officer at one of the largest local authorities in London. As an accredited business advisor to SMEs in the borough, he was engaged in dealing with small businesses, helping them acquire management, financial and business skills. Elected in 1995, Roy served as a Councillor on Chesham Town & Chiltern District Councils and was Chesham Mayor in 2003/4. Candidates for Chiltern Ridges Alan Bacon Alan has represented Lowndes ward on Chesham Town Council since 1991 and has been Mayor of Chesham. He was a councillor for Asheridge Vale and Lowndes on Chiltern District Council and is now on the new Buckinghamshire Council representing Chiltern Ridges. He is the shadow portfolio holder for Health and Adult Social Care on the new council and is taking a keen interest in the local handling of the coronavirus pandemic. He is Chairman of Chesham, Arts Festival. Mohammad Fayyaz Mohammad Fayyaz is a community activist, a long-standing Chesham Town Councillor for Asheridge Vale and has twice been Mayor of Chesham. He has dedicated himself to getting things done to improve our town and community and is often seen around Chesham clearing weeds, picking up litter, planting new flowers and reporting anything that needs to be fixed to the relevant authority. He is the chairman of both Asheridge Vale and Lowndes Community Association, and Chesham in Bloom. Mohammad is standing for the Town Council in Asheridge Vale ward and also for Buckinghamshire Council. Paul Harding Paul grew up in Buckinghamshire and has lived in Chesham for four years. He continues to be involved in Chesham's community response to the pandemic through the Chesham Help for Coronavirus Help Group and is a passionate supporter of local sustainability and environmental projects. He currently runs Cambridge Global Conversations, an outreach project based at Jesus College. Paul spent 13 years in Beijing, China, where he co-founded an online learning platform and database that grew to become China’s largest platform for creative tech skills training.
