David Jeffels, Press. Apologies A. & B. Polley A.G.Woodhead,N.Ballard,S.Forbister,,N.Pounder, P.C.G.Goodwill, N.Pounder, E.Magee. The Chairman Welcomed everyone to the meeting. Police Report Insp. Hutchinson outlined the problems surrounding the financial cuts that have to be made in the next 4 years based on the Grant Funding for Police Forces in & Wales made by The Home Office. In Dec.2010 the Police Authority approved an application made by the Chief Constable to invoke Regulation A19. The A19 process allows the service to retire officers who have attained 30 years service, as an option, should this be required. Locally the Halloween, Mischief, & Bonfire Nights took place without any major problems, the Christmas & New Year celebrations were only spoilt by a few individuals ‘ over indulging’. . As you will be aware last year (2009 / 10) we produced a massive reduction in the number of crimes on the area. It was always going to be hard to follow this and unfortunately we have seen a rise in the overall number of crimes committed. Across the area two main categories have accounted for the majority of the overall rise they been theft and violent crime. What I would like to remind residents is that 2009 / 10 was an exceptional year in terms of crime reduction and whilst any rise is unfortunate it must be kept in perspective. The crime figures for the first nine months of 2009 / 10 stood at 1313 whilst in the same time frame this year (2010 / 11) we have had 1357 crime reported. In reality this means we are averaging just above one crime per week extra. SAFER ROADS UPDATE Malton Rural West Figs. show that between 23/8/ 2010 and 22/11/2010 a total of 61 fixed penalty notices were issued. 67% of these tickets were for exceeding a speed limit. As a partnership we run various events across the area to try and improve the driving standards and I would urge drivers to think about what they are doing and unfortunately remember the saying “ speed kills ’’ COMMUNITY PRIORITIES Over the last few months we ran an operation in partnership with a number of neighbouring Safer Neighbourhood Areas and Humberside police to tackle rural crime and poaching. It is pleasing to report that the initiative appears to have worked as there has been a marked drop in reported incidents of crime. What I would ask is that those members present pass on the following request to other residents. If anyone does see something suspicious try to obtain the registration number of vehicles and / or description of the people involved and then please ring it in. By taking part in this form of partnership working it will hopefully allow my officers and I not only to maintain the excellent reputation Ryedale has achieved but also to improve on it. Gail Snowden added that courses were being set up for young drivers at the army cadet depot in Langton Road. Sgt. Paul Stephenson stated that – Poaching was still a problem, the rising price of venison resulted in more activity. The growing of cannabis was reported in Warthill & Rillington. COMMENTS FROM VILLAGES – School Traffic A.Kaye highlighted the traffic problems caused by vehicles depositing and collecting children at Welburn Primary School , an attempt to establish a ‘walking bus’ arrangement had proved to be unsuccessful. E.Hope stated that a similar problem existed at Foston School. It was also stated that a similar long standing problem, mentioned at previous meetings, existed at Amotherby School. Insp. Hutchinson said that the Police would visit the schools to assess the problem . M.Parker Concern was expressed regarding school children being approached by strangers, schools should make children aware of dangers. M.Parker also asked if anything could be done about the amount of ‘traveller’s’ horses grazing on the roadside verges, destroying bulbs, also creating a safety hazard. Date of Next Meeting Insp. Hutchinson was asked about providing a guest speaker to attend the next meeting, he suggested asking one of the Traffic Sergeants to attend and talk about Policing the A64. A date would be fixed during the last week in May (24 th . to 26 th .) at Flaxton (subject to venue being available). The Chairman Thanked everyone for attending and participating and closed the meeting.

E.W.Smith (Sec)
