Souper Stonehenge is by Speightstown out of Onepointhree- karats, by Medaglia d’Oro and has now won five career races with four seconds and a third from 16 starts while earning $343,705. Souper Stonehenge is the first foal for Onepointhreekarats, who has also produced graded stakes-placed, stakes-winning 4-year-old Tap It to Win, who was also bred by Live Oak Stud and races in the prominent while, red and black colors of Live Oak Plantation. Last year during the COVID-19 pan- demic the handle was $7.153 million. Cajun’s Magic gave his sire Cajun Breeze his third winner in the $100,000 Florida Sire Stakes Dr. Fager in the last four years including the Michael Yates-trained Cajun Firecracker, who represented the stallion’s first crop in 2018. Cajun Breeze, who stands at Stonehedge Farm South, also sired Dr. Fager-winner Breeze on By last year. Breeze on By, who was trained by Ralph Nicks, also won the $200,000 FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes Affirmed on Aug. 29 last year. Cajun’s Magic also represented the 17th victory in the Florida Sire Stakes for Gilbert and Marilyn Campbell. Owned by J. Kirk and Judy Robison, Jackie’s Warrior won for the sixth time in nine starts and improved to three-for-three at the Spa, adding to his scores as a juvenile in last year’s Grade 2 Saratoga Special and Grade 1 Hopeful. Not even a half-hour delay due to heavy rainfall deterred Jackie’s Warrior, who broke from post three under Joel Rosario as the 1-2 favorite and led the six-horse field through an opening quarter- mile in :21.46 and the half in :43.85 over a sloppy and sealed track.

    January 31, 2018 - For Immediate Release Jockey Club of Canada Graded Stakes Committee Announces Upgrades for 2018 The Jockey Club of Canada’s Graded Stakes Committee held its annual review of the Graded and Listed Stakes in Canada and will have several upgrades for 2018. The Graded Stakes Committee meeting was conducted by Committee Chair, Ross McKague and accompanied by all Committee Members as well as the attending race advisors, Jason Teague, Stuart Slagle, Steve Lym, Tim Lawson, Paul Ryneveld and Tom Cosgrove. After reviewing the NARC figures for all Graded and Listed races in Canada, the Committee determined that the following races would be upgraded in 2018: The Summer Stakes will be upgraded from a G2 to G1 The Highlander Stakes will be upgraded from G2 to G1 The Royal North Stakes will be upgraded from G3 to G2 The Trillium Stakes will move from Listed Status to G3 Along with the upgrades, the Speed to Spare Stakes did not receive sufficient RQS numbers in 2017 and therefore will lose its Black-Type status in 2018, disqualifying it from Listed Status. The Jockey Club of Canada Graded Stakes Committee evaluates and reviews the Graded Stakes in Canada annually and determines whether races should be upgraded, downgraded or remain the same. The Committee bases their decisions on the cumulative NARC ratings for five consecutive years.     Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame 2020 Ballot Announced The Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame is pleased to announce its 2020 ballot. A total of 30 people and horses comprised of 15 Thoroughbred and 15 Standardbred candidates, have been selected to appear on the voting ballot. A 20-person Election Committee for each breed will determine the recipients in their respective categories. Results will be announced Tuesday, April 7th. The five categories selected for the 2020 Thoroughbred ballot are Builder, Jockey, Trainer, Female Horse, and Veteran Horse A Thoroughbred Builder ballot comprised of Charles E. Fipke, Phillip Kives, and Sue Leslie, is offered for voter consideration. Edmonton, Alberta born Charles E. Fipke, a successful Canadian geologist and prospector who was involved in the discovery of the Ekati Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories, has been involved in the Canadian Thoroughbred Industry for close to forty years. Among his accomplishments, he bred and owned three Sovereign Award-winners including 2008 Champion Three-Year-Old Male and winner of the 2008 Queen’s Plate, Not Bourbon; 2010 Champion Older Female, Impossible Time; and 2003 Champion Male Turf Horse Perfect Soul, who went on to become a successful sire. Also, Mr. Fipke bred and owned a number of other successful racehorses including winner of the 2011 Breeder’s Cup Filly and Mare Turf (GI), Perfect Shirl. The late Phillip Kives, based in Manitoba, known worldwide as the owner of K-Tel and the inventor of the info-mercial, became involved in thoroughbred racing in 1977 with the launch of K-4 Stables (later changed to K-5) to recognize the addition of his son to the Kives family.
