IOM 3D MONO FILM

INSTRUCTION FOR USE

This document is dealing with guidelines and tips regarding placement and tuning. All given values are measured from my own rigs and I am using them with success. You may find that different values are more suitable to your sailing style.

Rig assembly

I recommend to keep spreaders length 3 mm longer than minimum distance between and (measured on the height of the spreaders without mounted spreaders).

More tensioned rig is foreseen for constant wind speeds and directions. Less tensioned rig is foreseen for use during unstable wind conditions with considerable change of wind speed and direction. It is much easier to control the boat and boat accelerates easier with such setup.

Values which I am using are as follows:

A (No1) A (No1) B (No2) B (No2) C All measurements are in mm 1 more less more less (No3) Mast or bottom edge of measurement band 0 235 177 150 Shrouds 430 430 375 375 340 Spreaders 1060 1160 840 910 - Measurement band (top edge) 1600 1180 880

Some photos of sails corners and attachments to spars on rigs:

Hook for attaching the is made of stainless steel rod passing through small diameter eyelet positioned on masthead fitting.

2 Sail Marking We recommend making all sail number and other markings with permanent marker to prevent any distortion of the sail shape. Markings with permanent marker on lightweight sails are only feasible option.

Sail trimming

Standard luff tension for both and mainsail should be set with the minimum amount of tension needed to remove wrinkles from the luff area. The jackline on mainsail is tensioned independently to the luff tension at the base. Set tension of jackline line slightly tighter than you would the sail luff tension, in light winds just the small amount. Jib luff could be slightly more tensioned in very light wind condition, luff pocket is wide enough so leading edge will go forward in the middle of the headsail stay and thus reduce wind entry angle.

Adjust the length of the to match the mast and mainsail luff curves. If more "power" from the mainsail is needed than just straighten the mast. Check the mast by viewing from the top and adjust the backstay to obtain straight mast in fore- direction. Mainsail luff curve is designed to allow maximum "power" from the mainsail when mast is straight.

Proper judgment of the sea/wind conditions are the most important for the proper sail trim. You may find useful measurements in following table for steady wind speed and direction.

Additional to the data given in table, find following:  Mainsail and headsail leeches must be parallel in steady wind conditions.  If the boat heel angle is greater than 30 degrees, it is necessary to "spill out" the upper part of the mainsail in order to be able to achieve optimal heading angle without un-necessary weather helm.  Note that it will be easier to steer the boat with more twist in sails but the pointing ability of the boat will suffer.  If wind suddenly change speed or direction, increase the twist in both sails in order to avoid un- necessary weather helm. That's it! You may launch the boat and steer for win. Enjoy in sailing and all the best

After sailing

Remove all tension from sails and store them away of extreme high or low temperatures. If you use sail box then leave it open so sails can dry themself.

Enjoy and good luck!
