Here Are the 2020 Michelin Stars for New York City Chris Crowley | October 21, 2019 IMPRESSIONS: 2,097,337 Here Are the 2020 Michelin Stars for New York City Chris Crowley | October 21, 2019 http://www.grubstreet.com/2019/10/2020-michelin-stars-nyc.html We’re now deep into fall: The pumpkin spice is in the air, the leaves are changing, and Michelin has released its annual starred guide to New York’s restaurants. (Last week, the tire company let loose its 2020 Bib Gourmand list.) There are, as always, some new additions, with Blue Hill at Stone Barns (which was eligible for the first time) joining the two-star club and Estela, Crown Shy, and Odo among the new spots awarded a single star. As is customary, New York’s food geeks will gather, on the internet and at bars around town, to complain about what was snubbed and what didn’t deserve a star. Of course, you’re likely asking yourself, Did my favorite new spot make the list? It’s possible! No doubt your high-rolling friend will fume, “Blue Hill should’ve gotten five stars!” (There are only three.) Check out the full list: Three Stars (“Exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey”) Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare Eleven Madison Park Le Bernardin Masa Per Se Two Stars (“Excellent cuisine, worth a detour”) Aquavit Aska Atera Atomix Blanca Blue Hill at Stone Barns Daniel Gabriel Kreuther Ichimura at Uchū Jean Georges Jungsik Ko L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon The Modern One Star (“High-quality cooking, worth a stop”) Agern Ai Fiori Aldea Bar Uchū Bâtard Benno Blue Hill Bouley at Home Carbone Casa Enrique Casa Mono Caviar Russe Claro The Clocktower Contra Cote Crown Shy Del Posto Estela The Finch The Four Horsemen Gotham Bar and Grill Gramercy Tavern Hirohisa Jeju Noodle Bar Jewel Bako Kajitsu Kanoyama Kosaka L’Appart Le Coucou Le Jardinier Marea Meadowsweet The Musket Room Nix Noda Nomad Odo Okuda Oxalis Oxomoco Peter Luger The River Café Satsuki Sushi Amane Sushi Ginza Onodera Sushi Inoue Sushi Nakazawa Sushi Noz Sushi Yasuda Tempura Matsui Tuome Ukiyo Uncle Boon’s Wallsé ZZ’s Clam Bar .

  • @Tomcolicchio + @Gailsimmons Talk Food and Temple Court in New Downtown Alliance Video
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Elizabeth Lutz, 212.835.2763, [email protected] @TomColicchio + @GailSimmons Talk Food and Temple Court in New Downtown Alliance Video NEW YORK (March 1, 2018) – Chef and Restaurateur Tom Colicchio sat down with fellow Top Chef judge Gail Simmons for an inside look at his restaurant Temple Court in the latest video from The Alliance for Downtown New York. Located in The Beekman Hotel, Temple Court has earned high marks for both Chef Colicchio's signature style and seasonal take on classic dishes as well as for the restaurant and bar's meticulously appointed decor. Here he tells us how the restaurant pays homage to the neighborhood's history. Watch the video at: http://twn.nyc/TempleCourt "A lot of what we do here at Temple Court starts with this idea of bringing back the classics and making them modern. It's all a metaphor for what's going on Downtown. What's old is new, what's new is old - it's all coming back again," notes Chef/Owner Colicchio. "Walking from the Oculus to Temple Court, you can literally visit the future and the past of Lower Manhattan within 15 minutes," adds Simmons. Temple Court was one of the most highly anticipated restaurant openings in Lower Manhattan and is part of the wave of established names and up-and-coming food stars joining the neighborhood's ranks. On the horizon, additional Lower Manhattan restaurant openings will include projects from: - Andrew Carmellini (The Dutch), - Jean-Georges Vongerichten (ABC Kitchen, Jean-Georges), - Daniel Humm and Will Guidara (Eleven Madison Park), - Danny Meyer (Gramercy Tavern), - David Chang (Momofuku) and - James Kent (Nomad).

  • Step Into a New Phase: Eleven Madison Park Makes Art Part of A
EMP Step, 2017, cast stainless steel, 192 x 15 x 4.5 inches, by Daniel Turner at Eleven Madison Park. Eleven Madison Park, a vaunted restaurant in a vaulted space in the Flatiron District in New York, has reopened to much fanfare after four months off for renovation and reimagination. Chef Daniel Humm is back in the kitchen he made a focus of global attention among gourmands, and diners are back in front of the kind of artful and sophisticated dishes he has made a specialty. Upon entry, guests at Eleven Madison Park will now pass over a sort of threshold below: an artwork conceived for the luxe environs by the artist Daniel Turner. The piece is a Minimalist sculpture on the floor that doubles as a step up to the dining room, made of old materials from the restaurant’s former kitchen that were melted down and transfigured into a new form. The work is titled EMP Step. To learn more about its genesis and the journey to its new home, ARTnews spoke to both the artist and the chef about the project—and photographed it beginning this summer, while it was in the fabrication phase, and through its final installation last week. Interviews with Turner and Humm follow below, with a photo slideshow beneath. As told to Andy Battaglia: Daniel Turner, artist Daniel Humm heard of my piece Particle Process Cafeteria at König Galerie in 2016. Through a deconstructive process, I dissolved components of a cafeteria—folding chairs, collapsible tables, pieces of steel and wood—that were reduced to particle form.

  • May 15, 2019 Restaurant Guide to New York City Here Are Evaluations
May 15, 2019 Restaurant Guide to New York City Here are evaluations of restaurants that I’ve tried in New York. You’ll see that the great majority of them receive grades of A or B. I don’t think that this is because I’m an easy grader. Rather, I generally don’t go to a place unless it has received at least a 4.0 from the generally reliable Zagat guide or I’ve gotten a recommendation from a source whose judgment I trust. Still, there are clunkers now and then. Also, I grade on a curve in the sense that a great hamburger joint and a great upscale French restaurant can both merit an A+, even though the dining experiences will be rather different. (Using the jargon of economics, I’m more or less looking at the marginal utility per dollar!) For the most part, these restaurants fall in the mid-price range (for Manhattan), roughly $40 to $60 per person, without drinks. Bon appétit! Restaurant Neighborhood Date Grade Comments 33 Greenwich Greenwich October 2017 A- Southern. Updated versions of southern food were Village outstanding. Try the shrimp and grits and the meatloaf sandwich. The service, while pleasant, was too slow and inattentive. 44& ½ Hell’s Kitchen Hell’s Kitchen November 2006 B+ American. Some of the dishes were terrific (goat cheese souffle’ appetizer), but some, like the main course duck, were only ok. November 2009 A Upgraded this to an A—everything was excellent, January 2010 A service was good, and portions were substantial. October 2017 A- Everything was good.
