The targeted lands are planted with almonds and other fruitful trees. The military order stated to evacuate the lands and to dismantle all what exists on them; this includes but not limited to trees, infrastructure installations, or anything else, under the pretext that the lands area classified as “State Land.” Al Ayyam (February 3, 2012). • The Israeli supreme court rejected an appeal filed by local residents of Um Al Rukba area in Al Khader village west of Bethlehem city, against the demolition of 30 Palestinian houses in the village based on military orders distributed to residents ten years ago and accordingly renewed the demolition of 2 houses (out of 30 targeted with demolition) and a water well in the village. The first house (80 square meters area) is owned by Khaled Abdel Salam Salah and houses 5 family members; while the second house which stands on an 80 square meters area, is owned by Nader Abdel Salam Salah and is still under construction. The water well is owned by Mufeed Ghneim.     Life in GAZA Today A collection of paintings by Christian and Muslim children and adult artists who live in Gaza Catalogue Indifference of the World Mohammad Al Amrani – Aged 15 years 1 Introduction In December 2008 the Israeli Defense Forces invaded the tiny pocket of land on the eastern Mediterranean Sea known as the Gaza Strip killing approximately 1400 residents and wounding thousands more. Having wreaked great destruction and death on the area the military then withdrew and tightened again its close cordon of control around all aspects of life in the Gaza Strip which had been in place for two years. Israel continues to control the borders of Gaza, and controls all movement and trade with the outside world. Gaza’s seaport is closed and its airport bombed. All access to the population of 1.5million (over half of whom are children) including humanitarian aid, all food and water, construction supplies and medical equipment and supplies is closely controlled by Israel. These two experiences of ‘the war’ and ‘the siege’ have defined life for the people in Gaza. What is it like to live under such conditions? What do ordinary people experience? How do they cope and what do they long for? Can we hear the voice of ordinary Gazan people through the razor wire of the border fences and the blackout of everyday news and gossip from one of the poorest, most densely populated and most heavily controlled places on the planet? The Major Issues and Theology Foundation (MIAT) believes that one way we can do this is through art.

Most scholarship focuses on nineteenth-century educational and ecclesiastical endeavors, as innovations in technology proved mutually transformative. These accounts define the relationship between missionaries, colonialism, and the emergence of the modern state. Less attention, however, has been paid to the impact of medical missions. These institutions interacted with every segment of society while concurrently engaging with practices of religion, law, and medicine. In Palestine, they provoked an ambivalent response amongst the populace who benefited from their medical services but generally disdained their proselytizing practices that tore at the social fabric. Palestinians felt compelled to react to the practices of mission hospitals. The minute records of mission hospitals, paired with Palestinian reactions to their polarizing practices, allow scholars to trace subtle transformations in the making of modern Palestine.

    1 A BRIEF SUMMARY OF BAPTIST HISTORY IN THE HOLY LAND: 1911-2011 By: Bader Mansour, Executive Secretary of the Association of Baptist Churches in Israel Arab Christianity dates from the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:11). Ever since that time there have been Arab believers in Jesus Christ. Their early history is remarkable. Arab Christians took very seriously the Great Commission and took the gospel throughout the Middle East, so that throughout the two thousand years since then there have been large Christian Arab communities, especially beyond the borders of the ancient Byzantine Empire. Indeed, recent scholarship indicates that the Church of the Arabs was once as sizeable as the Greek and Latin Churches of ancient Christianity, for example having some 200 bishops in Iraq alone prior to the Muslim Conquest. Islam began to spread among the Arabs from around 600 C.E. with Jerusalem falling into Muslim control in the year 632. Christian Arabs nevertheless continued faithfully to maintain their witness despite living as a “Dhimmy community” under almost continuous Moslem rule since that time. The Islamic treatment of Christians (and Jews) varied over the centuries from some degree of tolerance to violent opposition and forced conversions. However, Christians were always been treated as second class citizens and were required to pay a special tax. Despite this, Christian scholars made a significant contribution to the golden era of Arab civilization. Christians were sometimes appointed to government positions because of their moral seriousness and dependability, and Christian scholars were prominent in the areas of science, medicine and poetry. Between 1095 and 1291 Muslim control of the Holy Land was interrupted by the ‘Christian’ rule of the Crusaders.

    BRIEFING PAPER June 2010 Christian-Muslim relations in Palestine An overview of the Christian presence in Palestine The estimated number of Palestinian Christians in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and Jerusalem is 51,710, making the percentage of the Palestinian Christians in the Occupied Territories two percent of the Palestinian population.i There is, in contrast, a higher percentage of Christians in Israel. The percentage of the Arab Christians in Israel - including Israeli Occupied Jerusalem - is 1.66, according to the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics. Bethlehem, which traces its roots to the very origin of the Christian faith, is the home to the highest percentage of Christians in Palestine (43.4%), followed by Ramallah (24.7%), then Jerusalem (17.9%). Christianity has a long standing history in Palestine, and Palestinian Christians belong to several traditional communities of faith. The first are the traditions of the Eastern Orthodox churches, the second is made up of the Syrian, Coptic and Armenian Orthodox churches, and a third category consists of those churches belonging to the Catholic family of churches. There are also a small but increasing number of evangelical churches, including the Lutheran and Episcopal churches. Over the past century, the percentage of Christian Palestinians has been in decline. The influx of Jewish immigrants since the late 1880s, the Nakba of 1948 and the expulsions of 1967 played a big role in diminishing the presence of Palestinian Christians. During the Deir Yassin Massacre of 1948, over a quarter of a million Palestinians, many of them Christian, were displaced or disappeared. Many of the 531 villages that were levelled in 1948 had a mix of Christian and Muslim inhabitants.

The archaeological excavations conducted in Gaza region since the late 19th century down to the present day yielded rich archaeological evidence of urban evolution since the 4th Millennium BC. The excavated stratified occupational sequence of ancient cities and villages is represented by the explored architecture in different local and imported construction material, biological remains, and diverse of local and imported artifacts. This visual evidence enables scholars to reconstruct the different elements of Gaza urban profile through Ages and to identify the interaction between the people on the one hand and the environment and the surrounding regions on the. In parallel to the archaeological results the records of Ancient Egypt, engraved on temple walls and in mud tablets are most important sources of the urban history since the Bronze Age. During the last decade Palestinian and Palestinian-European archaeologists have brought to the light a large number of artifacts that remained in Gaza to the first time in history. This is a further distinguished element for evaluating the regional urban development. The radiometric analysis and C14 of biological remains as well as the advanced remote sensing technologies for exploring unexcavated architectural and metal remains enable scholars, students and local people to view and study the visual evidence of the six thousand years history of urbanism and urbanization.

Its authors describe it as “the Christian Palestinians’ word to the world about what is happening in Palestine”. In it, they request the international community “to stand by the Palestinian people who have faced oppression, displacement, suffering and clear apartheid for more than six decades” and to bring pressure to bear on Israel to end the occupation of Palestinian land. In November 2010, Sadaka is hosting a tour of Ireland by Palestinian church leaders, H.E. Archbishop Theodosius Hanna of the Greek Orthodox Church, Monsignor Manuel Musallam of the Latin Catholic Church and Mr Constantine Dabbagh, Executive Secretary of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Department of Service for Palestinian Refugees in Gaza. The purpose of the tour is to enable these leaders to bring this message personally to church and political leaders in Ireland.

Bethlehem • The Israeli occupation Army bulldozers and under the protection of the Israeli Army Forces stormed the western part of Husan village west of Bethlehem Governorate and demolished without prior notifications three structures owned by local residents from the village in addition to seizing of more than 4 tons of iron. The first demolished structure is a nursery owned by resident Mohammad Bajes Shoushe where it was built last year on a total area of 50 m2. The second demolished structure is a car wash station built in the year 2006 and owned by resident Firas Sabri Shoushe, where the Israeli occupation army seized a container full of lubricants from the site after demolishing the station.
