ABOUT N. B. MEHTA SCIENCE COLLEGE : The Government of Maharashtra and the University of Mumbai granted permission to the Gokhale Education Society, Nashik to start a single faculty Science College at Bordi from the academic year 1994-95. The college started with one division of F.Y.B.Sc. and became a full fledged degree college of Science in subsequent years. The college has created facilities for the urban as well as rural and adivasi students for higher education in science and has tried to make them self-sufficient and employable in the industrial sectors. Late Shriman Nagarjibhai Bhagawanjibhai Mehta, from Valwada, served in the G.E.Society’s S.P.H. High School, Bordi from 1944 to 1969. He rendered his services with utmost integrity and sincerity. He was a disciple of Acharya Bhise and a follower of Mahatma Gandhi. He came forth with a munificent donation and the college building was constructed by his son Nitinbhai Mehta in accordance with his wishes. The college is named after Shriman Nagarjibhai Mehta. The college is committed to cater to the needs of the area and the residents of Bordi, Gholwad, Borigaon, Dahanu, Jawhar, Mokhada, Talasari and Wada Tahasils. The College has its own beautiful campus of two acres, close to the sea-shore and it functions in its own buildings situated at a distance of about 2 kms. from the Gholvad Railway Station (W.RIy.) OUR COMPUTER DEPARTMENT - SAU. L. J. PATHARE INSTITUTE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY : Scientific and technological advancement has influenced every facet of society. Its impact on our daily life has been so immense that it has forced changes in our behaviour and mindset. The rapid development in electronics, computing and communications has led to the creation of Information Technology (IT). The world is undergoing a sea- change due to the phenomenal growth of Information Technology and applications of IT in the form of computerisation and transmission of electronic information. With a view to keep pace with the changing times and to equip ourselves to meet the challenges posed before us in the present competitive era, we undertook to develop a computer training centre which has gradually developed as a centre for courses in IT. The University of Mumbai had received the permission from the Government to start new courses like B.Sc. in Computer Science on Non-Grant basis in June 1999. Late Mr. Jaykumar Pathare, an industrialist from Kalyan, came forward to help the Society with a generous donation for the proposed computer academy. This enabled us to construct a well equipped separate multi storeyed building for the Institute of Information Technology so that we could cater to the need of advanced education in the field of Information Technology at Bordi Centre. The College has started B.Sc. with Computer Science, a three years integrated degree course, from the academic year 2000-2001 and B.Sc. (IT) from academic year 2001 - 2002 the G.E.Society has proposed to start career oriented UGC recognised courses and the Open University courses in the areas related to Information Technology. OTHER GRADUATE COURSES : We offer courses in Biotechnology and Microbiology at the graduate level. Graduate level education in Commerce is also imparted on a permanently non grant basis. 1 Prospectus 2019-20 POST GRADUATE COURSES : The policy of the Government of India is to increase the number of students seeking higher education up to post graduation. Sci.) from the academic year 2004-05 with the permission of the University of Mumbai. These PG courses and M.Sc. (IT) Course from 2009 have opened the opportunity for many aspiring students in this region to obtain post graduate degree at a place near their home. M.Sc. in Physics has begun from 2017. • CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) has been undertaking action research projects aimed at improving scholastic achievement in general, with a specific emphasis on idenufying the difficulties faced by first generation learners in school. The motivation underlying these projects arises out of the conviction, that differences in educability of groups of people, whether on the basis of socio-economic status, sex or any other socio-cultural factor, are not a result of biology nor are they insunnountable. The low academic performance of first generation learners who are essentially students belonging to the socio economically deprived sections of society, is due to pedagogic, linguistic and conceptual difficulties faced by them. HBCSE scientists believe that it is possible to design and test remedial measures to overcome them. This philosoph\' is explicated in section 1.2. Two action research projects, in the past have been based on the philosophy mentioned above. The first project (1975-78) was undenaken in schools around Khiroda, a rural area in Jalgaon district in the state of Maharashtra. This project aimed at identifying pedagogic, linguistic and behavioural difficulties faced by the first generation learners at school, and at designing specific remedial 1 measures. A related aim was the generation of a field-tested pedagogy based on the remedial measures designed to overcome identified difficulties. The project accepted factors like, infra-structural facilities in typical rural schools, qualifications of teachers, quality of text-books and the nature of examinations as inoperable. It aimed at motivating teachers to adopt the pedagogy incorporating the remedial measures by making them aware of the difficulties faced by their students.

  • 1. Executive Summary of the Project
    1. Executive Summary of the Project CHAPTER-1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1.1 Background MMRDA has decided to take up water resources development projects and water supply systems to meet the growing demand of drinking water supply in the Region. The Project includes water supply scheme to bring water from Surya source in order to augment the water supply of western sub-region of MMR. The Surya dam is owned by the Irrigation Department of Govt. of Maharashtra and is situated at about 54 km beyond the boundary line of MMR on north side. Tailrace water released from the hydro power project at the base of the dam is available as a source for proposed 403 MLD Water Supply Scheme to be developed to augment the water supply of western sub-region of MMR. An integrated water supply scheme has to be designed and implemented to Supply Bulk Water to two ULBs, VVCMC & MBMC and MMRDA’s proposed Rental Housing projects in the same area. Water from Surya Reservoir will be released through power house located at the base of the Dam at Dhamni. Tailrace water of the power house flows further into the Kawadas Weir and will be used for the proposed water supply scheme. It is further necessary to lift this water, convey it to the location where it can be treated and further transported by appropriate system to the various ULB’s and groups of villages. The MMRDA has accorded an administrative approval for revised estimated cost of Rs. 1977.29 Crores towards expenditure of proposed 403 Mld Surya Integrated Water Supply Scheme.
