Please see your Guidance Counselor if you have any questions. 1 To the Student: We hope this scholarship booklet will be helpful to you in applying for 2017-2018 academic year scholarships. Every effort was made to gather the most accurate information regarding local, state and national scholarship opportunities. Most scholarships have opening and closing dates. We post the scholarships on our websites. At that time they are available to students for completion. We would like you to follow the procedures below in applying for these scholarships: 1. APPLICATIONS: When you see that we are now accepting applications for a designated scholarship, you may then pick up the application in the guidance office or from the website. Some scholarship applications through the Wayne County Community Foundation will be completed online. Some physical applications may be available in the guidance office. We do not get all applications in January. We receive them sporadically throughout the year. If you see that you are taking the last application, please let us know. If the scholarship is through the Wayne County Community Foundation, the scholarship application can also be found on their website at www.waynecountycommunityfoundation.org. Some applications are completed online, while others may be downloaded. 2. DEADLINES: Keep careful track of application deadlines. Due dates are established by the sponsoring organization and are usually non-negotiable. Missing a deadline can be a costly mistake. Students are responsible for making sure applications are electronically submitted, mailed and/or postmarked on time. Applications being returned to the high school counselor do NOT need to be mailed to the school. To conserve on postage, please feel free to hand deliver those completed application packets. 3. RECOMMENDATIONS: If the scholarship requires letters of recommendation, please give the counselor and/or teacher(s) at least two weeks notice. Requests made the day an application is due will not be honored. 4. ACTIVITY SHEET: Most of the applications require a list of your school activities, community activities, sports, honors, etc. You may want to create an attractive personal data sheet or “brag” sheet on the computer, make good copies, and attach to the application. 5. TRANSCRIPT: If a transcript is required for an application, please submit a transcript request form. Requests should be made at least one day in advance of needing the transcript. 6. THANK YOU LETTER: Students receiving a scholarship are strongly encouraged to send the sponsor or organization a letter or card of appreciation. We wish you the best of luck. If you have any questions, please see your guidance counselor. Ohio Contract Usage 2016-2017 MHEC CONTRACTS leverage the potential volume of the region’s purchasing power, while saving entities time and money by simplifying the procurement process and negating the need to conduct a competitive sourcing event. By offering a turnkey solution with the ability to tailor the already negotiated contract to match the entity’s specific needs and2 requirements,0162017 MHEC contracts shift some of the negotiating power back to the entities. Additionally, because of MHEC’s statutory status, many of these contracts can also be adopted for use by K-12 districts and schools, as well as cities, states and local governments. Smaller institutions benefit from these contracts as they allow these institutions to receive some pricing and terms normally reserved for larger institutions. Committee members participate in the negotiations, sharing strategies, and tactics on dealing with specific contractual issues and vendors. Lighting the Way for Philanthropy Annual Report 2017-2018 Year in Review • Total gifts $14,181,976 • 1,937 individual gifts • 29 new funds • 422 funds in total • $77.2 million in total assets • $5,757,764 in grants and scholarships awarded • 1,060 grants and scholarships awarded • Over $72 million in grants and scholarships awarded since 1978 Letter to Our Community Dear Friends, Birthdays are occasions for looking back while also thinking ahead. As your Wayne County Community Foundation marks its 40th anniversary this year, we have a lot to celebrate! The Foundation’s growth—from 1978 when it was started with a single gift of $1,000—to assets under management in excess of $77 million today, is simply remarkable. This success is due to the uncommon generosity of thousands of Wayne County citizens who have chosen to make philanthropy a vibrant part of their lives. Even more significant than assets held by the Foundation is the amount of money given back to the community in the form of grants and scholarships: more than $72 million since 1978—proof positive that our donors have a major impact on the quality of life in our area. As we look back on 40 years of history, we are really celebrating you: the citizens, businesses, and service agencies of Wayne County who have steadfastly supported the Foundation‘s growth and development. This report offers insights on the past 40 years of WCCF’s history and also highlights opportunities as we look to the future. We hope it will inspire you to consider how you might help to write the next chapter in the life of the Foundation by supporting the causes you care about while building a lasting legacy of giving.
