Jupiter is the fixed karaka for children for all charts. Jupiter controls full knowledge of Astrology. Brihaspati bestows gnanam (wisdom). The strong aspect of Jupiter on any planetary affliction, how large it could be, has the capacity to tune down the adverse affect to large extent. This is one of the reasons as to why Jupiter enjoys the dignity of the highest title of Dev Guru. Intelligence is governed by devaguru Jupiter, who is the karaka for Dhi or the supreme intelligence. There are many kind of intelligence, which is important for sustenance in this material world and with the same reasoning; animals are also intelligent, as they also know, how to keep themselves alive. However, the only difference, between an animal and human being is the presence of “Dhi”, or the intelligence for self-development and realization. Who else can govern, such intelligence than the devaguru himself! The strength of Jupiter lies with guiding the Mana (Moon) in the right direction. This is why in the Kalachakra, or the time cycle, Jupiter is placed opposite to the Moon. No, wonder, on Amavasyas and Purnimas, when the mind gets hyper exited; only Jupiter has the power to put rein on such Mind. Thus on full Moon nights, when the Moon (Mind) is highly activated, Satya-Narayan (Jupiter) vrata is done. The omnipresence and omnipotent characteristics of knowledge (True knowledge- the Vedas) can only be described by the ethereal Jupiter. Jupiter has the extra ordinary power to tap all form of knowledge, comprehensible or incomprehensible. Among he supporters of Jupiter, Moon is the most important as he is who exalts the Jupiter. Thus, Moon aids in the manifestation of Jupiter or Dhi, and represent the Mana or consciousness. A strong Mana can only be productive, when it is under the proper guidance of supreme intellect signified by Devaguru Brhaspati. GURU: Treasury, bank, near peepal treees, temples, churches, monasteries, hermitages, courts, yoga asana centres, meditation hall. Cancer is exalted house. 5th degree of Cancer is deep exaltation. Capricorn is debilitated house. 5th degree of Capricorn is deep debilitation. Moolatrikona Sagittarius 0 to 10 degrees. Jupiter :—He is strong also in Vrscika, in his northerly course, in the fore-noon, and in the middle of a Sign. He is of moderate strength in the initial part of a Sign and weak at its end. He is strong also when retrograde, povided he is not debilitated. Jupiter/Guru is a benefic because he provides fortune, blessings, and abundance. He expands and provides more of the good aspects of whatever he affects. He points to where we have been virtuous, forgiving and kind, therefore have good karma to reap. Most importantly, Jupiter is the good merit that protects us from other adverse influences. JUPITER This planet represents the divine disciplines such as Sanskrit, Vedas and Shastras, Finance related subjects, high level strategy. Jupiter is foremost of among giver of the knowledge of Apara vidya. The knowledge, which is never destroyed in the cosmic cycle of birth and death. He is the Devaguru and hence the bestower of the supreme and divine knowledge of Vedas and shastra (Scriptures). He governs the divine languages such as Sanskrit and divine disciplines such as Jyotish or the Discipline of Light. Being a karaka for wealth or dhana karaka, Jupiter Governs the Finance related subjects such as financial management, banking, Economics etc. Jupiter rules the Dhi. Dhi is the principle, which differentiates us from animals. Dhi is the power of discrimination through knowledge. That is why Jupiter gives very high knowledge of Philosophy. Jupiter governs the disciplines of high-level strategy like Business Strategy, Strategies of War, Growth strategies of nations etc, as they require high-level thinking. Hence, he signifies those disciplines, which lead to consultants, advisors, counsellors, scientist, and Philosopher. Jupiter shows the direction of life trough the knowledge it confers and hence all the disciplines, which is directing towards showing the right path such as Journalist, Judges, Lawyer, Psychologist, Psychoanalyst, Teacher, Preacher etc. are governed by Jupiter Quotes from Jaimini Sutras 1. Jupiter Positive Jupiter yields good results if it is exalted, or is in its own or mooltrikona sign. It is also conidered good in and . It is beneficial if it is in an angle, triangle or in the XI house. It will give good results if it is in its own or exalted navamsha. The individual will come by wealth, vehicles, learning and success. He will enjoy good health. He will turn religious. There may be birth of a child in the family. He will enjoy power and high status. It may see marriage of a female individual or a happy married life. He will have an excellent house. His ambitions will be fulfilled. He will live in comfort and shall be happy. His elder siblings or in a female chart the husband of the individual may experience a happy period in their lives. Negative Jupiter, when debilitated, combust or associated with a malefic planet and placed in the VI or VIII house, shall be troublesome. Such a Jupiter causes loss of position, removal from residence, distress to children, mental disquiet, and loss of wealth. He may go on pilgrimages. The individual may have malfunctioning of liver or raised blood pressure. A female individual may experience marital stress or her husband may have trouble. The eldest child or the son of the individual may not fare well in life. Jupiter if unfavourable will indicate ear troubles, sickness to sons, anger of Gods and Brahmins and enmity with wicked people. If favourable : increase of clarity of mind, gain from religious practices, through persons well-versed in recitation of Vedas and through the favour of rulers. Gold, horses and elephants come in unsolicited. Brahmins and Gods bestow blessings. Jupiter : The wise Jupiter by its spiritual nature is said to represent ether. The two signs ruled by Jupiter, Sagittarius and Pisces are both dual in nature. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer which is cardinal sign with water element. The degree of exaltation is 5 degrees. Jupiter is considered as the most beneficial planet for mankind and will function best in Cancer because of the water element. Jupiter is the planet of wisdom or knowledge unlike Mercury which is the planet of information and exchange. Exalted Jupiter gives a person humility because of true wisdom. Exalted Jupiter makes him true guru who dispenses knowledge and wisdom for benefit of all. It is the planet of luck, divine grace which can fulfill all our needs without our seeking. When Jupiter is with us the universe is with us. In its exaltation in Cancer he is the Cosmic and Divine beneficence. Jupiter gets debilitated in Capricorn which is cardinal sign with earth element The earth element of Capricorn with it’s cardinal nature can make us too materialistic, too pragmatic. We can become too manipulative to achieve our goal. It will give us pride and arrogance and can make us too self centered. We can become over optimistic and over extend ourselves in every sphere of our life. The native having debilitated Jupiter is tactless, irritable, inconsistent, avaricious, unmanly, jealous and have a disgraceful behaviour. During the sub-period of debilitated Jupiter one suffers from liver disorders and fevers. One cannot concentrate on studies. There are obstructions in one's spiritual pursuits. One becomes selfish. One suffers on account of problems to one's male progeny and husband. If such debilitated Jupiter is badly placed and is under the severe affliction of Rahu/Ketu or the lords of the eighth or twelfth houses, one becomes vulnerable to liver cirrhosis, jaundice and diabetes. JUPITER IN THIRD 3rd is the house of Parakrama (bravery), Maithuna (copulation) and Death. Mars is the karaka of 3rd house, showing parakrama; because it is the sign of Maithuna, Rahu gets exalted in this house in the natural and Jaimini says 3rd is the house of death (Dinau Dine Punya). Jupiter, being the Devaguru, by nature is a peace-loving planet who signify harmony, universal brotherhood (Vasudaiva Kutumbakam) and wisdom. When such a planet goes to the house of parakrama, he is rendered ineffective under the violent temper of Mars. This is why Jupiter gets debilitated where Mars gets exalted. He can’t withstand the violence of Mars. Jupiter being a karaka for dharma, becomes very uncomfortable when it goes to the house of copulation. Like Sun who is rendered ineffective in the house of pleasures of Bed, Jupiter is also rendered ineffective in the house of sex. Jupiter is again the prana of the Life force and hence also called the Jiva, where as Mars is the Mrityu karaka. When Jupiter goes to the 3rd house, the house of death, the life force diminishes, more so under the effect of Karaka Mars. When we look at the ayana of planets we see that the ayana of Rahu is opposite to that of Jupiter. Hence wherever Rahu is strong, Jupiter is rendered weak. In the Kalachakra we see that the Kala of the Dik goveren by Jupiter, is ruled by Jupiter and hence any Jupiterian activity is prohibited in the Rahu Kala. A retrograde Jupiter never shows any major negativity on account of being retrograde if it is otherwise positive in a horoscope though it does show some results which are different. A retrograde Jupiter usually produces positive or negative results with a delay compared to a forward moving Jupiter. It also renders the habit of preaching more than usual in some cases and it may also be responsible for a situation where the native sometimes does not know how to deal with his knowledge properly. Such natives may have a habit of giving unasked advice to other people and may not know how to properly apply their knowledge at times. Apart from these general deviations, a retrograde Jupiter works much the same as a forward moving Jupiter and gives positive or negative results regarding its other significances as indicated by the other factors in a horoscope. Jupiter when retrograde in the eastern side of the zodiac gives notably good results. Sarvartha Chintamani states that during the ruling period of a Retrograde Jupiter, the native gets much wealth, sons, and wife and also gets favour from the Government. However, this is subject to the condition that Jupiter should not be under heavy afflictions. He has also referred to Phal-deepika where it is stated that a retrograde planet possesses strength when he is retrograde. It is stated that when 5th lord and 5th house, 9th lord and 9th house are weak, Retrograde Jupiter, well placed, is capable of giving male issue (son.) Jupiter is said to be combust when it comes within 11 degrees on either side of the Sun. Combust Jupiter is quite beneficial. He makes the native ambitious, religious, philosophical; literary and other activities play a major role. It is a highly benevolent combustion. Jupiter Combust When Jupiter is combust the native feels that they are unable to meet a set of ideals which their ego considers necessary for spiritual blessings. The self is attached to the need for perfect and noble behavior in order to be worthy of God’s grace. They are unable to accept themselves with their own imperfections and feel that God will not either. There is little room for self-forgiveness and a resulting lack of faith in God’s interest in their personal welfare. They may easily believe that others can receive Gods blessings, but that they are unable to believe that they themselves can. This creates a feeling of purposelessness in their activities, including their spiritual activities, because they feel that no matter what the effort they are still imperfect and therefore worthless in God’s eyes. In essence when Jupiter is combust the native is angry at religion or God for making it impossible for them. Generally the issues revolving around a combust Jupiter are developed as a result of experiencing some belief system that was presented in a dogmatic fashion. This belief system or the manners in which it was presented, would not have allowed for the normal feelings and desires which all humans have. Being of perfect behavior, word and thought would have been stressed with no practical methods being taught to control the mind and transcend desires. The individual would then be left in despair, without hope for any possible salvation. Another consideration of Jupiter’s combustion is that the native will feel insecure about their knowledge or wisdom. This will cause them frustration and anger when confronted by something they do not understand. Rather than admit that they do not understand they are more likely to act as if it is unimportant at the moment and try to sneak out of dealing with their lack of understanding. If Jupiter is combust the negative results will be confined to the beginning of the period. Thereafter the period will be positive. The individual during such a period may also go on a pilgrimage.

Of all the planets, Guru or Jupiter alone is capable of conferring all 3 yogas (i) Rajayoga (power and position), (ii) Dhanayoga (wealth) and (iii) Gnanayoga or wisdom and other worldly knowledge leading to emancipation.

The demons wanted to starve the deities to death by obstructing the oblation (Yagya) performed by them. Jupiter by the help of his profound knowledge helped the deities to get their due shares of the oblation. Jupiter the preceptor of the deities protected them by using the Rakshoghna mantra and driving away the demons. In ‘ Skandapuran ' there is a description how he became the preceptor of the deities. Jupiter did a severe and tremendous penance in ‘Dwarka' (prabhas area) to please lord Shankar. Being pleased by his penance lord Shiva gave him a boon to become the preceptor of the deities. Jupiter remains in each zodiac for a year if he has a retrograded motion then this duration changes. (Shrimadbhagawat 5/22/15 ). According to the Rigveda Jupiter is very pleasing to watch. He himself has constructed his abode. He is worth worshipping for the whole world. If he becomes pleased with his devotees he blesses them with prosperity and intelligence. He helps his devotees to be on a virtuous paths and protect them in every calamity. Jupiter is very affectionate towards people who seek his refuge. His weapon is a stick made of gold. Jupiter has two wives - Shubha and Tara . Seven daughters were born to Shubha – Bhanumati, Raka, Archismati, Mahishrvati, Siniwali and Havishmati. Seven sons and a daughter were born to Tara . Jupiter also had a third wife whose name was Mamta and who gave birth to ‘Bhardwaja' and ‘Kacha'. The presiding deity of Jupiter is ‘ Bhrama '. Making donations of yellow clothes, gold, turmeric, ghee, cereals of yellow colour, topaz, horse, book, honey, salt, sugar, land and umbrella to the brahmins pacifies the jupiter.

Mythology: In Indian myth Brihaspati is the deity for Jupiter who teaches the gods (devas) and protects humanity from evil. In Greek myth Jupiter or Zeus was the king of the gods. As the king he had the ultimate authority to give immortality or condemn one to a terrible fate. Both mythologies symbolize the ultimate judge or authority and father figure. In some it can be the over zealous know it all. Myth: Jupiter is the son of Chitra Devi and Saint Angirasa - a favorite son of Lord Brahma. Jupiter performed difficult penances for Lord Shiva for a period of 10,000 years. This pleased Lord Shiva so much that he declared him to be guru of the gods. Jupiter is therefore known as Lord of Worship and Guru. Mythology: Brihaspati is the Guru of Devtas( Gods ). His father is Maharishi Angira. Maharishi's wife got the knowledge and procedures of performing the Vrata (ritual) from Sanat Kumars for having a son. She performed the Vrata with complete devotion and the Gods were satisfied and a son was born in their house. The son was the lord of wisdom Jupiter. Old Greeks consider Jupiter as the father of Gods - ZEUS. Egyptians call it AMMON. The Norse calls it THOR. Babylonians call it as MERODACH. In the Skanda Purana it is said that Brahaspati worshiped Shiva for a thousand years and as a reward Shiva made him the planet Jupiter.
