Evolving Ranking Analysis of Cricket Teams The 12th Cricket World cup in 2019

PREFACE:

Why such Analysis is Required:-

Cricket being full of excitement and entertainment, was watched by Billions of cricket lovers and viewers all over world. As we have witnessed in the final of the last world cup, the strong & best teams which were performing consistently i. e. INDIA & AUSTRALIA were not in the final. It was surprising and shocking also.

Most of the people 's expectations belied as the fate of it was decided by who played a bit better on the one single fateful day than the teams which consistently played better throughout the world-cup tournament.

Even the verdict of Nerve-shredding, final match which was in tie, turned out to be more farcical than the fantastic which the fans were expecting.

It was anticlimax that England which was all out in 241 runs against New Zealand 's 241/ 8 wickets only – yet England was declared the Winner of the World cup, even though both scored same runs in the super overs also.

But, Just, on the basis of boundaries! Due to a Tie-break rule. England was Crowned, the Winner of the world cup 2019.

It created controversy, confusions and lots of heart burning among all Cricket loving fans and viewers. Question arises , why not on the basis of sixes instead of boundaries ?

Also, it is questioned , why not on basis of wickets ? then no super-over were required, and NewZealand was clear-cut winner.

Why not super overs should be continued till runs scored has a margin.?

Such rule prevails in other world’s most popular games like Football, Basketball and Hockey.

This, necessitates the Re-thinking of rules in cricket also on the lines of Football, to adorn the Winner’s Title. Ranking of Cricket team should be done on the basis of their overall and consistent performance on all parameters of the game, i e. Batting, Bawling, Fielding, and no. matches won against played, rather than only on Net Run rate per over(NRR).

In order to Justify, the efforts, performance and ability of a Team as whole, Ugaal has developed more Rational, Reasonable and Justifiable Analysis, based on following logic and Facts.

• It is because Runs scored shows Efforts of Batsmen of a Team and that of fielders of Opposite Team. • Also no. of Wickets fallen counts for efforts of Batsmen of a Team, Which is due to efforts of Bowlers and fielders of opposite Team. and • Total no. of matches won against Total no. Of matches played, shows the efforts of the Team, as a whole. Hence, it is not fair to Judge performance and Ranking only on basis of Runrate/over alone.

That’s why, while Ranking of Cricket Team, Ugaal’s Analysis, accounts for

1, The efforts and performance and ability of Team as a whole i.e. performances of Batsmen, Bowlers and Fielders.

2, Consistency in Performance of a Team during whole event, like world cup or on yearly basis.

3, Ugaal’s Analysis for Comparison is Derived in form of various Ratios, a, Ratio of Total Runs/ Total Wickets/ Total Overs Scored (RowS) against the Ratio of Total Runs/ Total Wickets/ Total Overs Conceded (RowC).

Here, Total of Runs, Wickets and Overs for all the matches of the Tournament/Event or on Yearly basis are accounted, for sake of comparing consistency Of Performance as a whole Team.

4, Ratio of RowS / RowC is worked out and is multiplied by 100 to come out with, Value for ease of comparison.

5, Ugaal’s Analysis, also takes into account, Value of Ratio of Matches Won against Played i.e. Match winning ratio = Total matches won/Total matches played.

Finally , A Sum of Values of Ratios of 4 and 5 is derived which is called a Winning Ratio value. Now, arranging Winning Ratio value in Ascending Order, The Topper Team having Highest Winning Ratio value will be Crowned as WINNER of “World’s Best Ranker Cricket Team”

Ugaal’s Analysis, for Ranking a Cricket Team, Can be derived on the basis of Calendar year, For Event like world-cup alone or even for matches played between Two Cricket Teams also. Also, same Ugaal’s Analysis can be applied for Ranking , for all formats, Separately for Test matches, One-day matches and 20/20 matches also.

Should we workout, Ranking for each of above formats for all the Teams, Then Sum of values of each format can evolve, The “World’s Best Cricket Team”. Off course, comparison should be for same period. E.g. 1year,5years, 10 years, like this.

Let’s work out Ranking of Cricket Teams, who participated in the World Cup 2019 on basis of Ugaal’s Analysis.

Performance of a particular team say, England , against all other teams during the event in Worldcup 2019 has been calculated and likewise for all other teams have been worked out and annexure is prepared for comparison of Ranking of Cricket Teams for World Cup 2019. Wherein, Ratios of Grand total of Runs Scored for no.of Wickets within no.s of Overs played, while playing against all other Teams of world cup2019 is calculated. = Runs 3198 / Wickets 78 / Overs 507.6 = 0.08077

Hence Ratio of (Runs scored/Wickets/Overs)*100 = 8.077, (RowS) ,

While, Grand total of Runs Conceded for no.of Wickets within no.s of Overs played, while playing against all other Teams of world cup2019. = Runs 2782 / Wickets 96 / Overs 527.4 = 0.05495

Hence Ratio of (Runs Conceded/Wickets/Overs)*100 = 5.495.(RowC). Now, Ratio of RowS/RowC = 8.077/5.495 = 1.47 ….(A) Clear Meaning of RowS/RowC is, Greater its Value, better is the Performance.

Also, for Considerations of performance as a whole Team, Ugaal’s Analysis takes into account Ratio of No.of Matches WON/ No.of Matches Played.

England won 8 matches out of 11 played. Ratio= 8/11 = 0.727,,,(B) Hence Winners Ratio for England = A+B =1.47 + 0.727 = 2.197
