I was incredibly encouraged and realized at this moment that I wanted to make a living using my talent and doing what I loved. I was accepted at the Maryland College of Art & Design and honed my skills there as an artist, making the Dean’s List every semester until I graduated. After receiving an AA in Visual Communications, I decided to continue my education at the Atlanta College of Art and graduated with a BA in Computer Art. Shortly after graduation I realized that a career in computer art was not my passion, I transitioned to fine art painting, utilizing my computer art background. While I enjoy painting a variety of subjects, and experiment with abstractions and realism, I prefer portraiture. People fascinate me and I love the challenge of bringing out their personalities through my work. I have recently shown; Seven pieces at Volt Restaurant in Frederick, Md. from June 2018 through the end of August 2018, Participated in Martinsburg, WV’s Festival of Banners. My banner was on public display on N. Queen St. from June 2018 through the end of August 2018. Placed “Best in Show” in the Berkeley Arts 2018 Eastern West Virginia Juried Exhibit with “Topsail Family Portrait”. Condensed outlines construct the flowing shapes in a fresh, liberated manner and Filice’s singular use of color further expounds on this ‘release’. This innovative interpretation of a memory has been diligently executed and showcases the artistry and spirit of artist Katherine Filice. -E.E. Jacks APÉRO Catalogue Contrast - March 2019 12 Tony Gangitano Transfiguration1, 2018 Marble 13 x 20 x 12 in $1,600.00 Tony Gangitano San Diego, California, USA 858-717-3366 [email protected] Tony Gangitano Biography: Born -- Brooklyn NY Lives -- San Diego CA Tony received a Bachelors of Landscape Architecture, with a minor in Art, from the University of Georgia and returned to work in New York City. He moved to San Diego CA to study art and launched a program of independent study/travel in many countries. This led Tony to Italy, where he lived and worked as a sculptor for two years. He interned in ceramic and bronze with sculptor Alberto Ricci in Rome, then did internships and independent study of stone carving at Studio Sem and bronze casting at Tommasi Foundry, both in Pietra Santa, Italy. Upon returning to California, he pursued a Masters of Fine Art at SDSU. There the love of carving stone and casting bronze took a back seat to less traditional materials, which he incorporated into more conceptual sculptures and site-specific installations. Tony’s work was exhibited in group shows, two-person shows, and featured artist shows until the year 2000, when he took a hiatus from sculpture and focused on environmental landscape architecture design projects. In 2015, he re-emerged as a well-seasoned, creative, high energy, conceptually oriented mixed media sculptor. His current work is fresh and exciting, incorporating thoughtful concepts and new materials.
