Nathan Altier Biography: Junior year of high school, I won first place and received an honorable mention in an art contest put on by the Southern Maryland Women’s League, for two separate pieces, a lithograph print collage and a painting. I was incredibly encouraged and realized at this moment that I wanted to make a living using my talent and doing what I loved. I was accepted at the Maryland College of Art & Design and honed my skills there as an artist, making the Dean’s List every semester until I graduated. After receiving an AA in Visual Communications, I decided to continue my education at the Atlanta College of Art and graduated with a BA in Computer Art. Shortly after graduation I realized that a career in computer art was not my passion, I transitioned to fine art painting, utilizing my computer art background. While I enjoy painting a variety of subjects, and experiment with abstractions and realism, I prefer portraiture. People fascinate me and I love the challenge of bringing out their personalities through my work. I have recently shown; Seven pieces at Volt Restaurant in Frederick, Md. from June 2018 through the end of August 2018, Participated in Martinsburg, WV’s Festival of Banners. In the works I have completed so far, I process the collected materials so as to emphasize their properties as well as to refer to their history or previous function / application. In doing this, I am constantly accompanied by a need of ordering and giving meaning to what man has abandoned and treated as waste. I create abstract works containing an emotional element referring to the psyche and human experience. I use materials such as recycled sponge, recycled paper, honeycomb cardboard, agrotextile, jute rope, styrofoam, Bee wax and what will fall into my hands. In addition, an important place in my creative work is foundry in such materials as: bronze, aluminum and cast iron. It is thanks to this process that I am able to preserve or even protect the acquired materials from complete destruction.

There is a strong sense of memoirs of my life and I specifically explore the trajectory between the past and the present. Many of the pieces are self-portraits and reflect on the process of personal discovery of my influences - how they formed who I am today. All in all, in a simple sentence the work is a narrative of who I am and who I became the person I am today.

Curator Review: Traces I Bold layers and faded edges, mysteriously blend together in this evocative piece by artist Thelka Papadopoulou. Thelka’s skillful composition and the direct nature of the figure is quite striking. An intriguing narrative and shifting visual aspect has been singularly articulated within the ridges and textured areas of this work. From the deep gaze of the subject, to the subtle lines of scattered text, an internal conversation has most certainly been captured. -E.E. Jacks

Ira Stein Biography: My art tells the stories of the relationships between me and my models. Before one brushstroke is put to canvas, I need to know absolutely everything about her. My artistic process requires time and a commitment to paint the unmediated truth discovered during this close relationship. It is an agonizing process but I am compelled to continue asking difficult questions. Over the past years, I have painted the most unique women to me based on our chemistry and their story. I believe that their behaviors are genetically determined and not a result of experience or societal influences. My paintings, mixed media collages and sculptures will not necessarily go with the furniture but it will leave you with the unbelievable documentation supporting my belief that behaviors are predetermined by genetics. IRA

Curator Review: Priorities Artist Ira Stein has boldly created a piece of societal contradictions. The centered emotional imagery juxtaposed against the luxury brands is both incredibly expressive and intuitive. Stein’s almost duteous composition and visceral assertion, reaches far beyond the edges of the piece itself and into that place of diffused responsibility. In tone and cohesiveness this sentient work absolutely rises. -E.E. Jacks

Statement Making art, is like a refuge where I can process the complexities of the world. It’s like an inner shed in which I can lose myself. My inspirations are many, but especially the continuous cycles of systems getting out of balance and finding their balance again. Creating order out of chaos and reflecting on complexity is part of my creative process. Chance is a leading principle in my artistic practice. Taking chances to achieve the unpredictable and working by chance so I can spontaneously interact with the mediums I am using. Chance invites me to change with the tides, to broaden horizons, enrich experiences, and try new avenues.

Roberto Torres Biography: I have always had an interest in the representation of traditions that have been passed down in my family; while demonstrating my knowledge through interpretations of my experiences through various formats. As a first-generation Mexican American (Chicano) artist I uphold a great responsibility to carry on a voice to benefit communities who are underrepresented while breaking down barriers that separate people from societal divisiveness in America. I am creating a body of work that is concerned with the past, present, mythological, and supernatural aspects of Mexican culture. Bringing attention to these complexities in my current work that also expresses sociopolitical issues that Latin Americans face on a daily basis. Employing a variety of artistic approaches including all forms of printmaking, ceramics, and mixed-media. I am creating a narrative that speaks to the rich tradition while also investigating contemporary problems. Understanding my provenance allows me to form the body of work that is more than just a display of techniques or ability to work in different styles. Most work can be a separation of two cultures in contrast to neighboring countries of Mexico and the . I feel that my best work affirms the complexity and the values I had grown to appreciate and communicate to the viewer a deeper understanding of my origin.

Pamela Waldroup Biography: Exaggerated angles of view and juxtaposition of serendipitously placed elements combine with moody, sometimes dramatic light in Pamela Waldroup’s photographs to leave the viewer with a sense of a presence unseen but felt in her eclectic body of work. Originally from the Midwest, she continues to document her East Coast experience with a newcomer’s fascination for details. Waldroup has established herself as a fine art photographer on the North Shore of Long Island. She holds a B.F.A. from Ohio University and a M.A. in Drawing and Printmaking from Long Island University where she studied with master artist Stan Brodsky. Waldroup’s intensive experience in printmaking with Dan Welden in Florence and in the Masters in Art Workshop at Southampton inspired her transition to digital photography as her primary media. Her photography is about hyper-focusing on the subject to solidify her experience and prompt a memory, real or imagined, to surface both for herself and the viewer. Working primarily in black and white, Waldroup says she has been inspired by Edward Weston to create images of dynamic movement that often take on a sculptural quality. The absence of color allows the viewer to become immersed in the place, mood and time depicted, but leaves room for personal interpretation and imagination as well. Waldroup taught darkroom and digital photography, and fine arts, for 32 years while successfully exhibiting her work and the work of students in many local and regional venues. A member of fotofoto Gallery in Huntington, NY and National Association of Women Artists in NYC, she has exhibited in the metropolitan area, including: Alex Ferrone Gallery, Salmagundi Art Club in NYC, 440 Gallery in Brooklyn, fotofoto Gallery, East End Arts Gallery, Patchogue Arts Council Gallery, Mills Pond House Gallery, Main Street Gallery, Art League of LI, LI Museum, 2018 LI Biennial at Heckscher Museum, and the EXPO 38 Winners Exhibition at b.j.Spoke Gallery in March 2019.

Curator Review: Flow This beautiful image with its surreal outline and strong shadows, allows the imagination to roam. The delicate curves and fused values, evoke a gorgeous sense of motion and mood. Artist Pamela Waldroup gracefully conveys a continual path that evolves into what the mind’s eye wishes to see. Her poetic vision of an organic element in shades of gray, black and white, is truly lyrical. -E.E. Jacks
