Austin @ University of Texas @ Murray State 2018 Rattler Basketball RIGHT NOW The Latest News And Notes On FAMU Hoops ROAD WARRIORS GRAB FIRST WIN: The FAMU Men’s Basketball team won their first game of the season Monday night, using a second half surge to roll past Division Two Albany (Ga.) State, 77-59… FAMU rode went on a 23-8 run in the first nine and half minutes of the second half, building a 59-38 lead with 11:24 left, ending any hopes for the visiting Rams. @ Sophomore guard Nasir Core of Tampa, celebrated his birthday with a team- high 14 for FAMU, highlighted by a pair of three-pointers. Senior Marcus Barham added 12 points and four assists for the Rattlers, which had all 11 players in uniform score Monday night. @ The game was close through the first 20 minutes, as Albany came in determined to play the Rattlers tough. FAMU was also without leading scorer Desmond Williams, who was sidelined for the first half for a rules violation. He finished with eight points. @ FAMU which will play 14 of their first 17 games on the road in November and December, have just one more home date, on Monday, December 11, when they host North Florida (7:00) RATTLER HOLIDAY SWING NORTH, WEST: The Road Warriors of FAMU, head out Tuesday for a five-game, 13-day swing… Wednesday, the Rattlers are at North Dakota State (7:00 p.m. Central), then they head to Wisconsin for a Friday duel with Wisconsin Green Bay (6:00 p.m. Central)…. @ Then FAMU dives South to Texas for a Sunday bout with the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (2:00 p.m. Central) in Nacodoches, Texas, before heading to the state capital of Austin for a Wednesday night set against the Texas Longhorns (Nov. 29 – 7:00 p.m. Central)…. They will close the swing Saturday, Dec. 2 at Murray (Ky.) State. WILLIAMS, BARHAM SET EARLY PACE: Seniors Desmond Williams and Marcus Barham, second team Preseason All-MEAC selections, are living up to the early billing… @ Barham has taken over the club scoring lead after Williams missed the first half of Monday’s game after being benched for a violation of team rules, averaging 14.0 points per game, while Williams is down from 14.5 to 13.2 points per game… @ Barham is shooting .333 from distance (12 of 36), and is near perfect from the charity stripe at .933 (14 of 15), plus he tops the club in steals (6), and is tied for second in assists (7)…. He has twice led the team in scoring, against Miami and Mississippi State… @ Williams led FAMU in scoring against Grand Canyon and UNLV …. He is second in rebounding at 5.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 72 percent from the foul line, and tying Javonni Harrell for second in steals (5). WILLIAMS UNIQUE AMONG RATTLERS: Desmond Williams is a rarity for FAMU Basketball in recent years, as he is the first leading scorer from the previous year to return… The prior two seasons, FAMU’s top guns transferred because the program was under NCAA APR sanctions, and one, Malcolm Bernard, actually started for Xavier of Ohio, which reached the Elite Eight this past spring… NEWCOMERS MAKING IMPACT TOO: A couple of newcomers are having an impact on the Rattlers which could bode well as the season wears on…. @ 7-0 JUCO transfer center Isaiah Martin is the club’s third leading scorer at 9.4 points per game, and tied with Desmond Williams for the club rebounding lead at 6.5 per game… Martin had a spectacular double-double performance Nov. 11 at UNLV, when he struck for 20 points and 10 rebounds in his matchup against the Runnin’ Rebels’ projected NBA Lottery pick…Martin is also shooting a robust .613 (19 of 31) from the floor, and tops the club with 11 blocked shots….. @ Freshman Kamron Reaves (5.4 ppg, 2.8 rbs) has shown flashes off the bench as well, topping the squad in assists (11) and ranking second in three pointers made (5 of 17)….
