Kaikorai also currently find themselves in fourth position, they haven’t lost a match since 29th of April and are on track for finals footy again in 2017. Taieri, despite being only a mathematical chance of the top four, would love nothing more than to take back the George Broadley, along with putting an end to Kaikorai’s unbeaten run. Back in Blue: Fullback Mitchell Scott will make a welcome return for the home team on Saturday, after recovering from an ankle injury sustained against University 3 weeks ago. Mitchell adds spark to the Taieri backline and his exceptional communication skills ensure the Taieri team will head in the right direction. Loose Unit: Kaikorai have an abundance of talent in the loose, this week opting for young guns Isimeli Tuivaga, Slade McDowall and Patrick McCurran. The trio are dynamic around the field and aren’t afraid to get confrontational both on attack and defence. Iakopo Petelo Mapu will be waiting patiently on the bench and will add impact when unleashed! Players to Watch: Matt Whaanga (Taieri) gets better and better every week as his match fitness returns after a long stint on the side-lines. Matt’s uncanny strength makes him a handful for opposition defences and his ability to offload in the tackle creates ample opportunities for his outsides. Sean Conner (Kaikorai) an elusive outside back who will look to insert himself on the game as often as possible. The more he touches the ball, the more chance Kaikorai will have of retaining the George Broadley Trophy. University are winless in 4 (3 losses and a draw), whilst after a slow start Taieri are on a mini resurgence and are undefeated since 29th April. Key Clash: The forward pack battle is set to be decisive with a wet, cold day predicted. University will look to set the platform with Ricky Jackson, Angus Williams & Jack Sherratt, whilst Taieri will answer back with the likes of Josh Reid, Brendon Murdoch and Vinnie O’Connell. In the battle of the backs, Fletcher Smith makes a timely return for University and will take his place at Fullback. For Taieri rising star Matt Whangaa returns to the heart of the midfield, after a lengthy injury stint. Whangaa made his return via the Colts last week and after getting through 15mins, including scoring two tries has been elevated to the Premier side. Players to Watch: Taylor Haugh (University) one of many young guns in the University side, Haugh is an exceptional attacking threat including speed (1.57sec over 10m – Otago record) and agility. He has popped up at first five, wing and fullback this year, so don’t be surprised if Haugh roams on Saturday.

After the morale boosting win AU now set their sights on Harbour who are on a four match winning streak and playing with a high degree of confidence. Alhambra-Union will be asking their forwards to put in a big shift against an intimidating Harbour forward pack and will look for their X-Factor coated backline to break the game open. Harbour on the other hand will look to attain dominance with their big ball runners upfront and when the timing is right they will look to their elusive backline to ensure they leave the North Ground with a win and the Ross Godman Memorial. Expect this game to be a high scoring thriller. Players to Watch: Poasa Cama (Alhambra-Union) looked upon as the King of X-factor at AU, he creates something out of nothing and when Alhambra- Union need him the most he delivers. Poasa named at second five will often pop up at various positions around the field where his first and second options are to attack! Poasa will play a big part if AU go on to win.

Otago Rugby Football Union Inc. Notice is hereby given that the 136th Annual General Meeting of the Otago Rugby Football Union Incorporated will be held at the Kaikorai Rugby Football Club, 25 Lynn Street, Maori Hill, Dunedin on Monday 27th March 2017, beginning at 7.00pm. Richard Kinley General Manager Presidents Report It is with real pleasure that I have the opportunity to report on what for me has been a most rewarding and enjoyable year. Since becoming your President at the beginning of the 2016 season, I have appreciated the long hard road back it has been for the Otago Rugby Football Union to recover from the financial situation of 6 years ago and to see where we are today. Not only have we made positive progress financially but also the strength of our player numbers, coaches, referees and volunteers continues to improve in most areas right across the province. It is also clear that we have gained a degree of credibility from NZ Rugby with the increased allocation of resources to help grow the game in Otago at all levels. We all know we have a long way to go to regain our position of standing of some years ago, but having been involved with the current Board and Staff over the past year, I believe we are making sound progress towards achieving our goals. The undoubted highlight for me this year has been watching the many junior, secondary school and senior club matches throughout the province both during the week and at the weekends together with having the opportunity of meeting up with players, parents, referees and supporters after the games.

Richard Kinley General Manager 2 | P a g e President’s Report This has been a special four years for me to have the honour of being President of such a proud Rugby Province. The game is changing both on and off the field and we all know there are many challenges, but what has not changed are the fine group of volunteers that administer all aspects of the game that makes being involved such a privilege. There have been many wonderful memories during my time as President, the most enjoyable being the wonderful people I have been able to meet. Chatting to friends at after-match functions, discussing initiatives with our sponsors, talking to people on the side-lines and discussing issues at numerous meetings, have all given me many ideas to pass onto the staff and the Board to help enhance the game at all levels. I have been fortunate enough to visit almost every club in Otago this year, in addition to supporting secondary school rugby both on Saturdays and during the week, as well as see many games of primary rugby. I have enjoyed attending as many meetings as possible, to show the ORFU’s support as well as sponsors functions and a number of prize givings.

Notice is hereby given that the 137th Annual General Meeting of the Otago Rugby Football Union Incorporated will be held at the Pirates Football Club, 6 John Wilson Drive, St Kilda, Dunedin on Wednesday 21st March 2018, beginning at 7.00pm. Richard Kinley General Manager 2 President’s Report It only seems like yesterday that my two year term as President began in 2016, but what a wonderful experience this has been. This year I continued to visit as many clubs as possible as well as watch a large number of games at all levels in both the Metropolitan and Country areas. We all know there are some challenging times ahead for the ORFU in terms of ensuring we are doing our very best to cater for the expectations of the rugby community in all aspects of the game. Having said that I believe that I am in a privileged position to make a balanced judgement across the whole domain of community rugby, and I am strongly of the view that while we need to continue to address some areas of concern, there are still many positive aspects of the game that we should celebrate. I am continued to be impressed with the game at primary level and all clubs and schools should be congratulated on the way they are looking after our young players, encouraging them in a positive way to enjoy the game. The weight grades is an area of immense satisfaction to me as I viewed a number of trials and representative games all over the province.

➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ROUND 1 Saturday 4th July 2020 THIS WEEKS DRAW IN THE ACTION OTAGO UNIVERSITY v ALHAMBRA-UNION LOGAN PARK 6 DUNEDIN v TAIERI KETTLE PARK HARBOUR v SOUTHERN WATSON PARK KAIKORAI v GREEN ISLAND BISHOPSCOURT BYE: ZINGARI-RICHMOND MATCH OF THE ROUND 2.15pm v BISHOPSCOURT Thank you to our sponsor ROUND 1 – SNAPSHOT v MATCH OF THE ROUND It what could also be described as an OBHS reunion the Grizzlies head to the Bishopscourt to take on the Demons in the season’s first Speights match of the round. There are some belter match ups across the park but the most telling could be the loose forward encounter of Lio-Willie, McDowall n McCurran vs Kingsbury, Va’afusuaga and Jansen. The home support proved vital in both matches in 2019 with Green Island taking the first-round victory 43-29 and Kaikorai edging the return game in a nail-biting 23-22. The two sides were only separated by a couple of competition points come the end of the Galloway Trophy round with GI taking their spot in the Finals’ and Kaik narrowly missing out ending up in 5th position. Some late selection news for GI with Captain and first-five Finn Strawbridge ruled out due to an ankle niggly, the Grizzlies have turned to the experienced and mercurial Ben Patston, who is also a coach, to run the cutter in the pivot position. After a heavy dose of rain throughout the week Patston will be keen to use the educated left boot to put his men in the right part of the field.
