INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC MASTERCLASS with GERRY PANTAZIS On Monday 30th April, the Kambrya Instrumental Music students were treated to a rare opportunity to see one of ’s hardest working session drummers live on stage in an exclusive masterclass. Gerry Pantazis is the kind of drummer you’ll see on live TV doing events such as , Australia’s Got Talent or Dancing With the Stars. Not to mention performing and recording with some of Australia’s biggest artists - ,Shannon Noel, David Campbell, , Casey Donovan, , Kate DeAraugo, , Tommy Emmanuel , Bachelor Girl and Human Nature to name a few!

The students were treated to 90 mins of blistering musical performance but also some amazing informative interview time where Gerry explained how to handle the pressure of gigs like live TV, how he prepares for performance, what a session musician is, how he keeps on top of his technique, how to be a better musician and how he would learn 50 songs in a week for one gig! Students from all instrument focuses were able to take away something from this amazing masterclass. 3 Inter-school Sport News

On Monday the 7th of May, 24 students from Year 7 and Year 8, represented the college in the Junior Girls Football team. After an hour of delay we competed against Gleneagles Secondary College and Berwick College. In very windy conditions and shorter matches the girls competed very gallantly, showing excellent team work, resilience and great sportsmanship.

Lanie captained the girls, gathering them in for team huddles to discuss tactics, giving instructions, encouragement and leading by example. After the matches she organised the girls to line up and shake hands with the opposition.

Unfortunately we lost both games, the first by 7 points and the 2nd by only 1 point. The teacher in charge from Gleneagles SC said that our tackling was better than the intermediate girls match which had been played earlier in the day.

Best on ground performances from Leah and Nat. Congratulations to all the girls: Alicia Amos, Lucy Brady, Brishti Brishti, Natalie Brown, Jada Candy, Mikayla Gidley, Chloe Higgins, Claire Hocking, Morgan Holland, Morgan Holmes, Lanie Maclean, Isabella Marshall, Chloe Maslen, Leah Mitchell, Mikayla Onezime, Isabella O’Shanassy, Paige Reinheimer, Ebony Rich, Ebony Shanal, Hannah Smith, Lily Thompson and Alicia Willis, particularly those that had never played football before.

Thankyou to Alyssa and Venessa from Yr 10 who helped umpire during the game. A very special thankyou to the parents who came to watch and support the team.

Changing the way young people learn about finance.

On Tuesday 8th of May, Soren Jensen from the Start Smart Secondary Program delivered an inspiring talk with the aim of motivating our 48 Year 12 VCAL students to make smart decisions about money. This workshop was organized to create awareness for our students in terms of money, to prepare for their future and was in line with the assessment task that they are going to work on. Soren explored a variety of topics associated with earning money such as getting your first job, taxation and workplace rights and responsibilities so that students are equipped with tools to allow them to maximize their income and enjoy their work. Soren also encouraged students to identify their most common barriers to saving, such as irregular wages and binge spending, before challenging them to identify practical strategies to overcome those barriers. The highlight of the workshop was when Soren explained how students could use superannuation as an investment vehicle to even become a millionaire in the coming years! The workshop as a whole was very interactive and students were engaged to ask and clarify questions they have encountered at work in regards to workplace rights and superannuation. It was highly beneficial to our students and helped prepare their mindsets/perspective about their future financials.
