2015 Indigenizing the Social Studies curriculum Acknowledging Other Ways of Knowing: Decolonizing For the second year in a row, the Aboriginal Education Centre has offered a half day professional learning and Indigenizing opportunity to teachers of Social Studies and History. Mathematics Offered in three sessions throughout the winter, teachers are able to sign up for a workshop based on their division. Dr. Susan Dion teaches the York credit, and the high school component is taught by an AEC staff member. First Nations, Métis and Inuit Studies PLC This year teachers of First Nations, Métis and Inuit Studies had the opportunity to attend the Indspire Conference on Indigenous Education, and a variety of other professional learning opportunities including visiting the Woodland Cultural Centre and Mohawk Institute in Brantford, Ontario. Most recently, these teachers attended a full day working at Eastern Commerce exploring the Debwemowin Lodge and receiving traditional teachings from Elder Pauline Shirt, a tour of the art gallery by Dr. Duke Redbird, and teachings on treaties and wampum by Maurice Switzer from the Union of Ontario Indians. The Aboriginal Education Centre looks forward to continuing this PLC next year. Financial Impact: There are no negative financial implications for the Board of Governors resulting from the adoption of this report as the rental values in this report will be reflected in the 2015 Operating Budget. Decision History: At its meeting of January 7, 2014, the Stadium Advisory Committee approved the following recommendations and requested it be referred to the Board for information. 1) The Stadium Advisory Committee approved the following rates commencing in 2015: a) BMO Field outdoor youth rate $260/hour b) BMO Field outdoor adult rate $290/hour c) Lamport Stadium rate of $195/hour (1/3 field) 2) Exhibition Place staff forward this report to the Board for information; and 3) This report also be referred to the City of Toronto’s General Manager of Parks, Forestry and Recreation Department for any necessary action. Issue Background: In accordance with the agreements relating to BMO Field, the Stadium Advisory Committee is to consider rental rates for both BMO Field and Lamport Stadium and make recommendations on these matters. Comments: Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment has undertaken a review of the community rates in facilities across the GTA (Appendix “B”) and are recommending that the rates for the 2015 outdoor season at BMO Field be increased from $285/hour to $290/hour for adults and from $255/hour to 2 $260/hour for youth; and the rates for the 2014/2015 indoor season at Lamport Stadium remain at $195/hour for 1/3 of the field.

This topic is based on a personal interest in the progressive development of the steelpan including the concerns and the implications for the future of the people, places, and institutions that are affected. Steelpan development, in its simplest form, is very broad when considering the varied aspects of cultural, social, academic, and economic scenarios. This dissertation offers a comparative analysis of the various aspects of steelpan development, based on the information focusing on two specific areas: academic and community development. Certain areas have begun the industrialized manufacturing of the instrument. The study is restricted to some of the major cities in Canada and the USA which have been heavily involved in some aspect of steelpan development. The rationale behind the study is to observe and determine the pros and cons in areas of development and to provide information that may be shared and further assist in steelpan developmental strategies. Findings of the research are determined through the examination of related books on the steelpan culture, government documents, newspaper articles, interviews, participant observation, and my personal direct and continuous involvement with the pan culture for over fifty years.

Inexperienced up-and-comers lined the rosters on Sunday in an opportunity to get their feet wet at the semi-pro level, blanked by two of the top teams in each division. The women faced a difficult task in Vaughan Azzurri, tied for second in league standings, coming out on the wrong end of a 3 ? 0 score in the second-to-last game of the season. After holding Vaughan off the board in the first half, a spurt of three quick goals in a twelve-minute span put the game out of reach by the 62nd minute. ?I thought our defense did very well today, especially the centre-backs - Laura (Marrelli) and Sarah (Reynolds) - and obviously Quinn (Josiah, the goalie, stepped up to play very well,? said Aurora team official Peter Bulford. ?In the conditions, I thought they did very well. It was a makeup team with some young players, middle players and older players that haven't quite played together before, so it was tough for us but I thought we did well.? Aurora, who holds a record of 9-9-1 good for a tie for seventh in the eleven-team league, will face the 2-15-1 Sanjaxx Lions at Monarch Park Stadium on October 8 to close out the season.
