Addington Palace Golf Club ADDINGTON PALACE GOLF CLUB Membership Information Addington Palace Golf Club is a stunning golf course and wedding venue within easy reach of London. The course is acknowledged as the finest in the area, both for its layout and year round condition. We pride ourselves on the welcoming atmosphere at Addington Palace Golf Club - we are a warm and friendly Club. The following information will give you an overview of the benefits of membership at Addington Palace Golf Club. T he Course The golf course, 6,404 yards off the back tees with a Standard Scratch of 72 for men and 73 for ladies, is recognised as one of the best in Surrey. Tree-lined fairways, a variety of challenging holes and stunning views across London make for a memorable golfing experience. The course was designed and built by J.H. Taylor in 1930. The first nine holes are fringed by mature trees and follow a course through woodland. The back nine holes are laid out in a more traditional parkland setting that has the Grade 1 listed Addington Palace as a stunning backdrop. The course is free draining and does not need temporary greens or tees, even in the wettest months. The club has over 60 category one golfers, i.e. handicap 5 or better, many of whom have developed through our academy and junior sections. Others have joined us in order to be members of a thriving club with a true test of golf for players of all abilities. For Juniors - £50 per annum Includes: • Invite to join the fortnightly Saturday group lesson (10am-12noon) for an additional charge. I’m thinking of joining and would like to play the course first. Is that possible? A. Yes of course. You can play with a current member as their guest, however if you don’t know a member you are welcome to pay a reduced green fee, booked through the Pro shop. If you go on to join the Club within one month, the cost of the green fee will be credited against your first year’s subscription. Q. Do I have to book a tee time? A. No. Addington Palace Golf Club has a ‘turn up and play’ policy, which means you can play golf whenever you want, and as often as you want. Except for a few major competitions and Club events, you can simply turn up and be almost certain of a game. You can also choose to play 9, 12 or 18 holes, as suits your spare time. Q. I’m new to the area and don’t know anyone to play with. A. Our ‘turn up and play’ policy virtually guarantees that there will be other groups to join. During the week and at weekends there are many informal ‘roll-ups’ – at least one each day. You will soon get to know people. Q. Are Ladies welcome? And Juniors? A. We encourage both ladies and Junior members. Whilst we are all members of one club, or ladies and Juniors run their own thriving sections with full competition schedules. Q. Do I need a registered handicap to join? A. No. Applicants without a handicap are equally welcome and the Club Professional will guide you through the process to obtain a handicap when you join. Q. How soon could I become a member? A. Very soon. Once we have received your completed application form, we will arrange an informal meeting with one of our Board members and the Club Captain. At the meeting we will give you a brief overview of life as a member at Addington Palace Golf Club. You will also receive your membership pack, containing your subscription invoice, your bar card and bag tag. Q. What is the dress code when I attend my meeting? A. We operate a smart / casual dress code at the Club, a jacket and tie is not required. Clean golf attire is acceptable if you are meeting before or after your trial round. Q. Can I pay in instalments?     Borough Transport Strategy Draft Final 14 Local centres & neighbourhoods 14.1 Where do we want to be? Croydon should aspire to have a Metropolitan centre of regional importance, supported by a network of vibrant and distinctive local centres, each with surrounding neighbourhoods that are attractive places to live. Local centres should have good urban realm incorporating efficient street design and attractive landscaping but importantly maintain their individual identities. At their core, should be an active and diverse retail area that provides for all the basic needs of those who live in the surrounding neighbourhoods. The ‘high’ street should be well integrated with these neighbourhoods to build in self sufficiency and in doing so strengthen communities. This will help protect vitality and economical viability of the local centre which will make the neighbourhoods more attractive places in which to live. Neighbourhoods should also be well connected to key facilities such as schools, colleges, health centres but also public transport access points such as railway stations, bus and tram stops. This integration should be achieved with pedestrian and cycle routes that are direct and safe for all to users regardless of experience or ability. The impact of vehicles both parked and moving should be minimised while footways should be of good quality, legible, well maintained and adequately lit. Walking should be the primary mode of transport within these areas as it not only promotes healthy living but it helps develop a sense of community by giving local residents the opportunity to meet each other. Cycling to local schools should be encouraged and provided for, while local bus and tram stops should provide a safe and comfortable waiting environment.
