Also ordered were 4,100 gallons of a LS-25 spray solu- tion to apply on roads. This solution contains pre-mixed salt water that lowers the freezing temp from 32 degrees to approximately 26 degrees and can be applied 24-36 hours before a predicted event. When winter weather threatens the community, major roads are treated first, usually one lane only for emergency equipment use. These roads include Wilderness Parkway, Ridgeview, Valley View, Petit Ridge, Sanderlin Mountain, Falcon Heights, Red Fox, Wild Turkey, Cherokee Trail and Wildcat Parkway, using approximately 900 gallons of the solution. As long as heavy rains don’t fall before the freeze, the product will be effective for several days, and the freezing rain will activate it even after it has dried on the pavement. If you have dogs that prance in the sprayed solution, it won’t hurt them, but it would be a good idea to rinse paws after your doggie walk to eliminate any “salt licks.” Public Works still has approximately 3,200 gallons of the solution on hand so bring it on, Old Man Winter, bring it on! 6 | insidethegates.org February 2018 POA News
