Dopo il successo di pubblico della prima edizione, il tour 2019 cresce e arriva per la prima volta a Lecco martedì 3 dicembre al cinema Palladium. What the ...? May 2020 Bubble culture Bubbles aren’t new. We have been living in them all our lives. Recently they got smaller - very small under Level 4. They are starting to expand again, but even if and or when they are back to pre Covid-19 size, they will still be remarkably homogeneous. You can test this if you like by counting all the people in your bubble from different ethnicities, ages, genders (all of them), and level of education and see how many you share the same social and/or economic characteristics with, and how many you don’t. In terms of ethnicity, if your bubble is representative of the general population it should have roughly 70% European, 16% Maori,15% Asian, 8% Pacifia, 1 Latin American, Middle Eastern or African, and 1% of another ethnic group. Don’t forget to count yourself. If you notice that this adds up to over 100% that’s because some people identify with more than one ethnicity. If you are typical of the NZAC membership demographics, you will likely only have one or two ethnicities in your bubble at Level 2. If you add gender and age to ethnicity it will be even less diverse.

    AAC Publications Yosemite Valley, Summary of 2019 Activity California, Yosemite National Park Over the course of a year and a half, Brandon Adams established a new route on the Lost Brother that quickly became a favorite among high-end free climbers. Wayward Son (13 pitches, 5.12d or 5.11 A0) features three crux pitches of 5.12 through well-protected face climbing and classic Yosemite cracks. Between attempts on his new route, Adams also managed to set two speed records on El Capitan: Genesis (VI 5.11 A4, 20:25), with Chris Gay and Steven Tata, and Lost World (VI 5.7 A3, 12:25), with Rebecca Church. The Fifi Buttress continues to be a popular arena for new-routing. In November, Lucho Rivera and Cedar Wright established Dream Team (10 pitches, 5.13a) on the steep right side of the wall. The route weaves in and out of Vortex (IV 5.12, Russell-Zschiesche, 1982) and 9/11 (McDevitt, 2001), including a pitch previously bolted by Margaret and Trevor Shumaker. Dream Team is stout like other lines on this beautiful wall, with three pitches of 5.11, five pitches of 5.12, and one pitch of 5.13. Chris Koppl, Vitaliy Musiyenko, and Brian Prince—all prolific Sierra Nevada first ascensionists—finished a multi-year project on the south face of Half Dome. The Xue Way is a 20- pitch route named after a friend, Michelle Xue, who had recently passed away in a climbing accident along with Jennifer Shedden in the Eastern Sierra. See AAJ 2020. El Capitan was home to more free climbing than speed climbing this fall, with three free ascents of the Nose (VI 5.13c), by Barbara Zangerl (Austria) and Jacopo Larcher (Italy), and Sébastien Berthe (Belgium), who was the first to send the iconic route ground-up.

    A Month of Climbing in/near Yosemite I recently returned from nearly a month of epic climbing in/near Yosemite National Park. When I flew to San Francisco on June 12 and drove to Yosemite, I was planning to stay only a week or so to climb The Nose of El Capitan, through which I raised $75,000 for my favorite charity, KIPP charter schools. (This trip was a follow-up to five days of training with my guide, Paul Koubek, in February – see pics here.) But after successfully conquering The Nose, my schedule was was open, as was Paul’s – and Susan gave me her blessing – so I stayed another two and a half weeks! Paul and I climbed 19 of the 22 days I was out there.     AAC Publications The Nose Under Two Hours A Landmark Speed Record—And a Look Ahead ON JUNE 6, ALEX HONNOLD AND I managed to climb the Nose in 1:58:07 after 11 previous attempts. We had toyed with the idea of attempting a speed record the previous fall, but we only climbed the route together once, which was enough to whet our appetites and get us psyched for the spring season together. Both Alex and I have extensive experience on the Nose. Alex had previously set the Nose speed record with Hans Florine in June 2012, a record that stood until the fall of 2017, when Brad Gobright and Jim Reynolds climbed the route in 2:19:44after 15 or so attempts. Alex also holds various other speed records involving the Nose, including solo, solo link-up with Half Dome and Mt. Watkins, and undoubtedly others. I had previously free climbed the route wall-style, then in one day, then once more with the Freerider in a day. We’ve both additionally climbed it with many different friends over the years. From the beginning, I questioned Alex’s choice in me as a partner. I was far from being in top shape, due the demands of life keeping me from climbing much. I had bad elbow tendonitis as well as a schedule that would require me to fly off for various events a few days each week during our window of attempts. The question of risk also held a bit of a cloud over the project. The season before, Quinn Brett, a friend and all-around inspiring person from my hometown of Estes Park, Colorado, had taken a terrible fall while speed climbing on the Nose, which resulted in spinal paralysis.
