Senator Iwamoto, shocked by the murder of two Millcreek Precinct K-9 Officers, felt it important to City Council Special take steps at the state legislature to increase the Meeting penalty for killing a police service animal to a 12/10/19 8 am third-degree felony. K-9 Officer Aldo was killed in 2016 while protecting his handler and detectives during a gunfight that broke out while detectives were attempting to issue an arrest warrant. K-9 Officer Dingo was fatally wounded during a fugitive chase in 2017 during an operation to apprehend a fugitive known to be armed and dangerous. Both Dingo and Aldo gave their lives protecting UPD officers and in both cases are credited with saving lives. She was joined in her efforts by several individuals: * Assistant Chief Chad Reyes who was Dingo's handler and provided his time and supplies * Karen Koons, a Millcreek resident who decorates trees as part of her profession donated her expertise by gathering supplies and decorating the tree * Karen Hale, former State Senator, who donated the two large stuffed dogs * Brandy Farmer, a member of the UPD Citizens Advisory Board, who spent time and energy assisting with tree decoration * The Herriman UPD Precinct who donated a Certificate for a "Day With A Canine" The Millcreek Team was pleasantly surprised when the winning bid on this wonderful tribute tree was by Mayor Silvestrini and his wife, who have donated the tree to Millcreek where it will stand in the lobby of City Hall. All proceeds from the Festival of Trees go to Primary Children's Hospital.
