Rt Hon MS

Jeremy Miles MS Counsel General

23 July 2020

Dear Mark and Jeremy

Inquiry into Making Justice work in Wales

Further to my letters of the 11 and 19 June 2020, regarding our ongoing inquiry into Making Justice work in Wales, the Committee has now had an opportunity to discuss and agree the approach to gathering further evidence in the autumn term.

We would like to invite you both to attend our committee meeting on the morning of Monday 12 October, to discuss the progress made by the and the recently established Cabinet Sub-committee on Justice in response to the recommendations of the report of the Commission on Justice in Wales.

The session will also be an opportunity for us to discuss with you the particular issues that have been raised with us in the written responses we received as part of our public consultation.

The evidence session will take into account the current virtual meeting model for Committees. It is likely that the meeting will take place using the Zoom platform, although this will be confirmed closer to the date of the meeting.

I would be grateful if you could confirm your availability for this session at your earliest convenience.

Also, during the Committee for the Scrutiny of the First Minister session on 3 July 2020, I drew attention to the annual reports of the President of Welsh Tribunals. Please could you confirm that it is the Welsh Government’s intention to schedule a debate in the autumn on the President’s second annual report, which was laid before the Senedd on 29 June.

Yours sincerely,

Mick Antoniw MS Chair of the Legislation, Justice and Constitution Committee
