Perth Music Interviews Ben Stewart (Filmmaker) Amber Flynn (Rabbit Island) Sean O’Neill (Hang on Saint Christopher) Bill Darby David Craddock (Davey Craddock and the Spectacles) Scott Tomlinson (Kill Teen Angst) Thomas Mathieson (Mathas) Joe Bludge (The Painkillers) Tracey Read (The Wine Dark Sea) Rob Schifferli (The Leap Year) Chris Cobilis Andy Blaikie by Benedict Moleta December 2011 This collection of interviews was put together over the course of 2011. Some of these people have been involved in music for ten years or more, others not so long. The idea was to discuss background and development, as well as current and long-term musical projects. Benedict Moleta [email protected] Ben Stewart (Filmmaker) Were you born in Perth ? Yeah, I was born in Mt Lawley. You've been working on a music documentary for a while now, what's it about ? I started shooting footage mid 2008. I'm making a feature documentary about a bunch of bands over a period of time, it's an unscientific longitudinal study of sorts. It's a long process because I want to make an observational documentary with the narrative structure of a fiction film. I'm trying to capture a coming of age cliché but character arcs take a lot longer in real life. I remember reading once that rites of passage are good things to structure narratives around, so that's what I'm going to do, who am I to argue with a text book? Fair call. I guess one of the characteristics of bands developing or "coming of age" is that things can emerge, change, pass away and be reconfigured quickly.

  • This Week the Beatles Anthology, Coming Soon to a TV Set Near You, Is Unlikely to Unleash a New Wave of Beatlemania
E IN RADIO OCTOBER 2 This Week The Beatles Anthology, coming soon to a TV set near you, is unlikely to unleash a new wave of Beatlemania. But for :hose of us old and lucky enough to have been caught up in that British Invasion of '64, it'll be a nice revisit to those times, espec ally with Capitol's release of the first two of six CDs of Beatles rari- ties. For those who missed out on the Beatles in their prime, this is their best shot at the full story. And for the companies involved in the production- Apple Corps, Inc., ABC-TV, and Capitol/EMI-it's a big -backs bonanza. They are taking no chances, how- ever. As we report inside, the total cost of the market- ing of Anthology will be around $20 million. Our package, put together by our managing editor, Ben Fong -Torres, gives you a head start on all the hype, and includes revisits with Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Yoko Ono; with Top 40 at the height of the craziness, and with Dave Rothstein, a Gavin staffer who's not ashamed that, at 40 -something, he's still a Beatlemaniac. In News, Danny Goldberg (top) takes the helm at Mercury Records. Pearl Jam tops a poll of music executives; Entertairment Weekly offers its own power poll, and music loses Blind Melon's Shannon Hoon (mid- dle). In Rap, we remember hip - `THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY' hop activist Funken-Klein. an the GO Chart, Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories, Melissa Etheridge (bot- BRINGS THE FAB FOUR BACK..

The Rock Concert Experience: The Self-Authentication Process and Wellbeing A thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Management Studies at The University of Waikato by Daniel Hopper 2014 Abstract The purpose of this research was to understand consumers’ experiences at rock concerts. Growth in the live concert industry over the past 20 years suggests that these experiences provide value that consumers cannot attain through other means. Music fans can stream rock music or watch concerts without cost, while concert tickets are often over $100 each. Marketers need to understand more about the value derived from the live rock concert experience. The researcher gathered data over a period of six months in 2013, utilising three data collection methods: 1) in-depth interviews with eight participants; 2) observation of nine rock concerts; and 3) analysis of responses to concert reviews on news website Stuff.co.nz.

  • Jon Toogood. Height 180 Cm
MC / Entertainer Biography Jon Toogood. Height 180 cm After 20-odd years of life in a rock band, Shihad’s lead singer, songwriter and guitarist Jon Toogood has chalked up a wealth of experience in the music business. Always keen to share his wisdom and skills, he enjoys mentoring budding songwriters and musicians. When he’s not performing with Shihad or his“other”band, The Adults, he can be found indulging in a wide range of interests including immersing himself in the latest technology, travelling the world, enjoying most forms of creative art, discovering new favourite eateries and watching the Warriors. After over two decades of belting out hits with Kiwi rock band Shihad, Jon Toogood knows a thing or two about surviving in the music business. Keen to pass on his extensive knowledge, the band’s lead singer, songwriter and guitarist gets a buzz from mentoring budding songwriters and musicians and sharing his candid views on the realities of being a full-time touring musician. The self-titled show pony loves performing, but he’s also a workhorse behind the scenes. He manages his other band, The Adults and was involved in a stage show called The Beatles Back2Back which toured Australia. Jon is also the musical direction go-to guy for the annual Kiwi music award shows at which he has also been a presenter. An art-lover and former graphic design student, Jon has recently spoken at the Wellington City Art Gallery. Among his latest projects are orchestral versions of The Adults ’songs with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and the Nelson String Quartet, and with Shihad he plans to shake things up by recording the band’s next album in Cairo.

Revenue streams continued to diversify as the market rapidly embraced streaming, which now represents 24% of NZ wholesale recording revenues. Although growing, streaming has not yet achieved sufficient subscriber volume to create the returns previously derived from physical product and downloads. Live performance, synchronisation and merchandising are becoming of increasing importance to artist earnings. The Music Commission maintained its extensive industry consultation during this year with both Domestic and International industry discussion and feedback sessions in March and April 2015, and 57 Outward Sound recipients taking part in a survey assessing the programme.
