INDYCAR is excited to offer a unique STEM-focused learning opportunity for students and teachers during the 2013 racing season. In select North American race markets, we’ll invite local students to the track to learn about everything from car and engine design to tire compounds and fuel formulas. Hands-on activities and getting up close and personal with a race car will give students real-world examples of how their science and math classes can lead to a fast-paced career in the world of motorsports. For more information, please contact INDYCAR at (317) 492-5086. INDYCAR VP of Technology Will Phillips explains some of the technology of the current IZOD IndyCar Series chassis to a group of students from Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy in Baltimore, Md. WHAT TO WATCH FOR THIS WEEKEND: DIXON OFF TO STRONG START: Target Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon has staked an early claim to the 2013 crown. The New Zealand native has top-five finishes in the first two races of the season, including his fourth consecutive second-place finish at Barber on April 7. Can Dixon, who trails Helio Castroneves by nine points, continue his strong start and take his first victory of the season at Long Beach? HELIO LOOKS TO CONTINUE POINTS HAUL: With podium finishes in each of the first two races, Helio Castroneves leads the IZOD IndyCar Series standings for the second consecutive season heading to Long Beach. Can Castroneves, who won from pole at Long Beach in 2001, continue his strong start to the 2013 season by scoring another Long Beach win? VAUTIER IMPRESSIVE AT SCHMIDT: Rookie Tristan Vautier has shown he will be a force to be reckoned with in the IZOD IndyCar Series. The 2012 Firestone Indy Lights champion scored his first top-10 finish at Barber and has qualified in the Firestone Fast Six in each of his first two starts. Could the fast Frenchman be the dark horse this weekend? DINGER RETURNS TO THE BEACH: After a successful debut with Team Penske at Barber, California’s AJ Allmendinger returns to the streets of Long Beach. Allmendinger, who made his name in open-wheel racing before moving to NASCAR, hopes to recapture the success he had as a Champ Car regular at Long Beach as he tunes up for his Indianapolis 500 debut..
