UNITED AUTOSPORTS UNVEILS EXCITING GOING-FOR-GOLD PLANS at Mclaren LONDON Media Information EMBARGOED: 17:20.GMT, 1 March 2012 UNITED AUTOSPORTS UNVEILS EXCITING GOING-FOR-GOLD PLANS AT McLAREN LONDON United Autosports to race stunning new McLaren MP4-12C GT3 Third season for young Anglo-American team with strong driver line-up United Autosports this evening unveiled its curvaceous McLaren MP4-12C GT3 in unique livery and a top draw driver line-up to assembled guests at the McLaren London showroom in Knightsbridge. The team’s co-owners, Zak Brown and Richard Dean presented plans to deliver gold in 2012 Distinguished guests attended the hour-long event at McLaren London, including Ron Dennis CBE, Executive Chairman of McLaren Automotive and McLaren Group, and Bernie Ecclestone, President and CEO, Formula One Management. Leaping into 2012, the team embarks on its third season having already achieved superb results in previous years, with victories and several podiums. During 2010 and 2011, the team attracted exceptional drivers in ex-Formula 1 racers Martin Brundle, Mark Blundell, Johnny Herbert, Stefan Johannson and Eddie Cheever, as well as Indy 500 winner, Arie Luyendyk. Former Formula 1 driversMark Blundell (UK) and David Brabham (Aus) - also a winner at the Le Mans 24 Hours - will race the new 12C GT3 for United Autosports in 2012. United Autosports is ready to take on the world’s best teams in the Blancpain Endurance Series with a star-studded line-up of six drivers at the wheel of the British built McLaren MP4- 12C GT3. Brown and Dean are confident of victories in the world’s strongest GT3 competition. The Blancpain Endurance Series has attracted a strong list of entries for the championship and, with a comprehensive test program scheduled before the first round at Monza, Italy in April, the Leeds-based team plans to be ahead of its rivals in the 2012 goldrush. Zak Brown (USA), Co-Owner and CEO of United Autosports: “Tonight’s United Autosports launch demonstrates that we mean business in 2012. We have accomplished many of our goals in the first two years of operation but now it’s time to take another leap forward towards our first major title in GT sportscar racing. As a driver, I am also looking forward to co-driving with Mark Blundell and Mark Patterson in the Pro-Am class of the Blancpain Endurance Series with the mighty McLaren MP4-12C GT3. I’d also like to thank all our guests tonight, especially Ron Dennis and Bernie Ecclestone, who took time to wish us well.” Richard Dean (GB), Managing Director & Co-Owner of United Autosports: “It’s an honour to be associated with McLaren in its first full season racing the MP4-12C GT3. It is up to us to ensure we deliver results this year. We have put together a quality driver line-up, and a depth of engineering ability and experience within the team will ensure we can compete from the first race to the last.” – ENDS – For further information please contact: Linda Keen Press Officer United Autosports T: +44 (0)1424 250840 M: +44 (0)7745 121790 Email: [email protected] Skype: lindakeen www.unitedautosports.com Ends.

The company is believed to have taken the decision after indications in Japan that the automotive markets are not getting any better, Honda having recently announced a 56% drop in earnings in the last quarter, compared to 2008. Prior to that the company was looking at other options, such as selling the team on to someone else. This has now been axed and the company will simply close things down and settle all the necessary contractual commitments as quickly as possible. The news, if confirmed, will be another blow to the manufacturer power in F1 as it will be the third withdrawal by a major car company in 11 months, following in the footsteps of Honda and BMW. There are also doubts about the future of Renault's factory team. The news will also be a blow to the Formula One Teams' Association, although the members have learned that working together produces much better results than trying to take on the authorities alone. It also means that there are now just three manufacturers left: Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault, and engine supply from Cosworth will become essential to ensure there are sufficient engines to go around.

  • The English Have a Deserved Reputation for Being Unusually
The English have a deserved reputation for being unusually resilient and courageous people, despite their ultra-white skin, which may be genetic or simply the virtual absence of any sunlight at all. As you Map App your way for more than two hours from Heathrow towards Norwich just north of Snetterton, you eventually pass through some very concentrated pork country - acre upon acre covered with thousands and thousands of pink English pigs out in the open and they too never tan, so it may just be a genetic thing after all. It's fairly important not to be too literal traveling north on the A11 in northeastern English countryside, as approaching Snett there are quite a few confusing highway signs. Spooner Row, for example, isn't a drug rehab center, it's a village. Not a cleaning service, but a village too is Branham Broom. Watton isn't a Jayzee hiphop line inquiring if anything's happening; like Spooner Row, it's just another nearby town. Dogs Trust Rehoming Center - of course they do. What dog wouldn't, but this ended up not being a verb, but a center for abandoned animals. Having now reached the mid-point in the British GT championship with 3 races behind us and 3 ahead (Oulton, Rockingham, Silverstone done, with Brands Hatch, Zandvoort and Donnington to go), magic Matt Bell and I are in P3 only half a point from P2 in the series. It would take 12 or 13 paragraphs to explain Race Control's data catastrophe at Silverstone's 3 Hour race where the officials proved scrambled eggs are better left so.

  • Bernie Ecclestone
F1 People – Bernie Ecclestone Welcome to F1 People, a Sidepodcast series giving you an insight into the names that have shaped Formula 1. This is by no means a definitive list. In this first series, we’ll feature seven significant figures, starting with Bernard Charles Ecclestone. Bernie Ecclestone was born on October 28th 1930, in a small village in Suffolk, and brought up in Bexleyheath, Kent. He left school at 16 to work in the local gasworks as an assistant, so he could pursue his passion of motorcycles. After the end of World War II, Ecclestone began to trade motorcycle parts, and formed a dealership with Fred Compton. He had a go at racing, taking part in the Formula 3 500cc series, but a couple of accidents made him rethink his plans, and he returned to the business world. He bought out Compton, and turned the motorcycle business into a growing emporium, including auctions, loans and property deals. In 1957, Ecclestone became the manager of Stuart Lewis‐Evans, a racing driver from Wales. Ecclestone bought the F1 team Connaught to give Lewis‐Evans a drive, along with a couple of other promising drivers. He even had a go himself at the 1958 Monaco Grand Prix but did not get past qualifying. Bernie left the sport again, but returned in 1968 and 69 to manage Jochen Rindt in the Lotus. In 1972, he bought the Brabham team and put all his efforts into making it a winning constructor. The team cost him £100,000. He gradually made Brabham more and more competitive through the 1970s and well into the 1980s, but by then, other concerns were taking up his attention.
