Isg Software Prices Do not reproduce without written permission S/Pr.1 --------- ----- Oct 83 .:.---- ::::: :5~5: ISG SOFTWARE PRICES INTRODUCTION There are two separate lists contained in this section. The Software Price List includes all types of software currently marketed by NAD and NMO. Only prices for billing plans currently marketed to commercial customers are included. The Software Upgrade List includes charges for the limited number of programs that can be upgraded. This price list does not carry all feature codes assigned to a program number. Specifically missing are the following type feature codes: No charge types Asset assignments only codes (no charge types). Licensed program material types (such as publications, microfiche, and other non-machine readable materials), whether they have associated charges or not. ORGANIZATION The Software Price List is presented in program number sequence. Footnotes are kept to a minimum and, when practical, immediately follow each applicable software product. A hyphen indicates that a data field does not apply or no longer is available. Other special codes used will be explained in the legend. LEGEND FOR SOFTWARE PRICE LIST Column Heading Explanation PROGRAM/ The program number assigned to each software product. This column will also contain feature codes related to e FEAT NUM program number. The characters #xxxx in this column indicates that the feature code is not available at this time. CHARGE TYPE Identifies the types of charges associated with a program/ feature number and also what license type (Basic or OSLO) the charge is applied against. The codes used are: B/M = Basic License, Monthly Payment Period B / A Basic License, Annual Payment Period B/I = Basic License, Initial Charge B / 0 = Basic License, One-Time Charge B/P = Basic License, Process Charge O/M = OSLO License, Monthly Payment Period 0/ A = OSLO License, Annual Payment Period 0/1 = OSLO License, Initial Charge 0/0= OSLO License, One-Time Charge O/P = OSLO License, Process Charge SUC = Single Use Charge SCP = System Control Program CHARGE AMOUNT The dollar amount currently charged for each charge type. CP The number of Consecutive Payments for those charge types identified as periodic (monthly, annual). The codes used are: ## = Consecutive number (##) of payments after which further periodic charges will be waived. C = Continuous (---LPSC---) The Licensed Program Support charges (monthly or monthly multiple) for applicable program/feature Mon Mult numbers. PROGRAM/FEATURE This field is used to identify the program number or feature number on the same line. OTHER DESCRIPTION It is also used to provide explanatory information, when necessary. • The IBM System/38
8 The IBM System/38 8.1 Introduction IBM’s capability-based System38 [Berstis 80a, Houdek 81, IBM Sa, IBM 82b], announced in 1978 and delivered in 1980, is an outgrowth of work that began in the late sixties and early seventies on IBM’s future system (FS) project. Designers at the IBM Development Laboratory in Rochester, Minnesota incorporated ideas from FS, modified by their needs, to pro- duce a system for the commercial marketplace. It is interesting that such an advanced, object-based architecture has been ap- plied to a very traditional product space. Initially, only the COBOL and RPG III languages were provided. The system, which includes the CPF (Control Program Facility) operating system, is intended to support transaction processing and data- base applications constructed in commercial languages. A major goal of the System38 design is to maintain pro- grammer independence from the system implementation [Dahlby SO]; IBM wished to retain maximum flexibility to modify System38’s implementation for future technologies while supporting previously written System38 programs. The designers also wished to support a high level of integrity and security at the machine interface and to support commonly executed user and system functions efficiently, such as data- base searches and memory management [Hoffman 801. To meet these goals, IBM chose a layered machine structure with a high-level programming interface. The layers of this design are shown in Figure 8-l. At the lowest level is a hardware machine that directly exe- 137 The IBM System/38 User Applications Verticai Microcode Horizon&/ Microcode Hardware Machine Figure 8-1: System/38 Implementation Layers cutes 32-bit horizontal microcode.
