Icalendar Download File Create a Downloadable Icalendar icalendar download file Create a downloadable iCalendar. Save holidays in an iCalendar you email from Outlook or offer as a website download, so even people using Google Calendar and Apple iCal can see your holidays. Want more? You can create a calendar that contains holidays and important dates, and then save it as an iCalendar file that you can email from Outlook, or offer as a download from your site. The good thing about an iCalendar file is that it uses a standard Internet format, which means that people can open it in Outlook and many other calendar apps, such as Google Calendar and Apple iCal. To begin, let’s save some time by copying the holidays from our personal calendar, instaed of creating all the content from scratch. Go to the VIEW tab, click Change View , and List . And make sure Categories is selected in the Arrangement group. All the content we want to use is contained in the Holiday category, so all we have to do is right-click the Categories heading and click Copy . Go to the folder list. Right-click your personal calendar and click New Calendar . Type a name for it and click OK . Select the new calendar in the folder list and press Ctrl+V to paste the holidays. Now the only thing left to do is save the new calendar as an iCalendar file. With the calendar selected, click the FILE tab and Save Calendar . Choose where to save the file and give it a name. Under the Save as type box, you can see some information about the file you are about to create: the Name , Whole calendar (meaning the file will contain every holiday in your calendar), and Full details (meaning that people who open the iCalendar will see every detail in the calendar items.) To change any of that, click More Options . First, let’s change the Date Range so the people only see one year's worth of holidays. Click Specify dates and change the End date to one year from now. Under Detail , we can limit the amount of information that people can see about our appointments and meetings. In this case, however, we want people to see all the details. Click OK and Save . Then, locate the iCalendar file, and copy or upload it to a location where people can download the file, such as a network share or website. If you want to email the calendar, there is an easy way to do that. Go to the HOME tab and click E-mail Calendar . Specify what to include in the calendar, and click OK . The calendar is added to the email and an iCalendar file is attached. Add names on the To line, and click Send . ICS is also an acronym for a few technology terms that have nothing to do with calendar files, like Internet Connection Sharing, Image Capture Server, and IEEE Computer Society. How to Open an ICS File. ICS calendar files can be used in email clients like Microsoft Outlook, Windows Live Mail, and IBM Notes (formerly known as IBM Lotus Notes), as well as most popular calendar programs like Google Calendar for web browsers, Apple Calendar (previously called Apple iCal) for iOS mobile devices and Macs, Yahoo! Calendar, Mozilla Thunderbird's Lightning Calendar, and VueMinder. As an example, say you want to subscribe to a holiday calendar like those found on Calendar Labs. Opening one of those ICS files in a program like Microsoft Outlook will import all the events as a new calendar that you can then have overlaid with other events from the other calendars you're using. However, while using a local calendar like that is useful for things like holidays that won't change all year long, you might instead want to share a calendar with someone else so that the changes anyone makes is then reflected in the other people's calendars, like when setting up meetings or inviting people to events. To do that, you could store your calendar online with something like Google Calendar so it's both easy to share with others and also simple to edit wherever you are. You can import the ICS file into Google Calendar which lets you share your calendar through a unique URL and edit the .ICS file with new events. A regular text editor like Notepad can open ICS files, too—see others in our list of the Best Free Text Editors. However, while all the information is intact and viewable, what you'll be looking at isn't in a format that's the easiest to read or edit. It's best to use one of the above programs to open and edit ICS files. ICS files that are IronCAD 3D Drawing files can be opened with IronCAD. For ICS files that are IC Recorder Sound files, Sony's Digital Voice Player and Digital Voice Editor can open them. Windows Media Player can as well, so long as you install Sony Player Plug-in. If you find that an application on your PC does try to open the ICS file but it's the wrong application or if you would rather have another installed program open ICS files, see How to Change the Default Program for a Specific File Extension for help making that change in Windows. How to Convert an ICS File. You can convert an ICS calendar file to CSV for use in a spreadsheet program with the free online converter from Indigoblue.eu. You may also be able to export or save an ICS calendar file to another format by using one of the email clients or calendar programs from above. IronCAD can surely export an ICS file to another CAD format through a File > Save As or Export menu option.

Other technologies take longer to attain mass adoption because of issues with price, ease-of-use, or simply breaking old habits. Often, the biggest reason for rejecting technology comes down to trust. The calendar is perhaps the most quintessential element of a legal professional’s life. So why would he or she trust it to technology?–"I’ll calculate my own dates and deadlines!" Yet, according to Lawyers’ Mutual Insurance Company, the largest number of malpractice claims each year are the result of missed deadlines. The most common reason for missing deadlines is the lack of a calendaring system.
