Honorary Graduates Congratulations Honorary Graduates Class of 2009!

Once again it was celebrations all round for those collecting their degrees during summer graduation week.

Joining graduates from across Queen’s were famous faces from stage and screen and notable figures from the worlds of medicine and 1 science, the arts, broadcasting, business and commerce, education 11 and public service who received honorary degrees.

Among those recognised for their outstanding contributions and achievements were BBC journalist Orla Guerin (DUniv for services to broadcasting), UK Ambassador to the Holy See Francis Campbell (DUniv for distinction in public service) and Belfast-born Hollywood actress Geraldine Hughes (DUniv for services to the performing arts).

Earlier in the year the University awarded honorary degrees to the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, King of Malaysia, the international 2 3 peacemaker and educationalist Daisaku Ikeda, Northern Ireland actor 12 13 Liam Neeson and the former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

Over 4,000 graduates collected their degrees at 12 ceremonies before joining thousands of family members and friends at the traditional afternoon garden parties.
