The information was derived from a set of structured questionnaires sent to all involved institutions. The profiles for 276 professionals include title, address, telephone, fax and E-mail numbers, age, languages known positions held and employers, areas of present responsibilities, and details of specialized training in distance education. An appendix groups the professionals by areas of technical expertise, and then by areas of academic specialization. FOREWORD I am very happy to present this Directory of Distance Education Professionals brought out by the Distance Education Council (DEC). This publication is part of a series of such Reports and Handbook which are being prepared by DEC. The Distance Education Council, a statutory body of the IGNOU, has been actively involved in the promotion, coordination and maintenance of standards in Distance Education System in the country since 1992.It has been under taking various activities for the promotion of distance education system in the country. The Directory is one among the series planned by DEC as a database on Indian distance education professionals as a reference source for all. This directory of Distance Education Professionals covers the personnel working in Open Universities, Correspondence Course Institutes and Directorates of Distance Education of conventional Universities and other National level Research Institutes in India.It is aimed at providing a comprehensive information on available expertise in distance education in the country, with a view to promote greater academic exchange and collaboration amongst the researchers in distance education, and intra and inter-institutional cooperation in range of functions associated with distance education. I hope this document will serve the needs of distance education institutions, educational planners and professionals as well as students,teachers and researchers. A.W. Khan New Delhi Chairman January, 1999 Distance Education Council PREFACE The Distance Education Council takes pride in being able to bringout this directory of Distance Education Professionals. We were inspired by the effortsof The Commonwealth of Learning who had already publisheda directory on Distance Education experts and recommended that it would be good exercise if thecountry. wise directories of experts engaged in distance education activitiesin open and conventional universities is also prepared. The Directory contains information about professionals at three differentlevels viz. the Personal data, position and the previous employers,as well as expertise & specialized training/exposure to distance/open- education. Further, the expertise available has been classified into six major categories anda detailed list is prepared showing the professionals and experts availableindifferent fields of distance education system. A category wise list is also presented to givean exhaustive idea about their main disciplines. The Directory reveals varied profiles to helpin selection of professionals / experts from the different fields of distance educationas well as from the main subject disciplines. The information was procured through a set of structured questionnaires, -whichwere sent to all the State Open Universities, Correspondence Course Institutes and other institutions. The directory contains the profiles of a wide spectrum of professionals viz. Vice-chancellor's, Directors, Professors and others frommany reputed institutions from different parts of the country.This effort will also contribute in enriching the database in the field of distance education. It is hoped that those who are associated with the Indian distance educationsystem will find that this publication meets the information requirements in respect ofthe human resource available in the field of distance education in the country.
