Advancing democracy and human rights is a continuous effort that requires all of us to work together in order to realize it. They will not emerge on their own and so we must fight for them with the greatest determination. Moreover, the effort to develop democratization and human rights must be conducted at the local, national, regional and also international levels. Indeed, democracy and human rights are stated in our national motto of “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika” (Unity in Diversity). It was for this reason that The Habibie Center was established to be a vehicle for the people of Indonesia to continue the process of developing the democratization and human rights issues. By cooperating with International partners from Asia, Europe and all over the world, The Habibie Center actively participate in discussing important issues for Indonesia and the wider Southeast Asia region, as well as promoting solutions to address problems. Our research, advocacy, and other activities remains centered in our efforts to champion democracy, human rights, and social justice. However, we cannot do all of this alone in creating a better Indonesia. Thus, I call on all members of society – the government, other institutions, the media and the public, both national and international – to join us, support us, and work with us under the rallying cry of “Democratization Must Go On!” “Democratization Must Go On!”

Prof. Dr. -Ing. Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie
